A beautiful area, with a great combination of nature, native american history and surprisingly movie nostalgia all around. Be sure to look for John Ford Point (requires a pass to access the Navajo Tribal Park) and for Forest Gump Point on rt 163.

Oljato-Monument Valley is a fabulous place to visit. The majestic mesas and buttes are truly impressive. The Native American history is fascinating and the association with western films is fun.

The loop is rough driving dirt road. It is best to be in a high clearance like SUV or truck. You can make it in a car but clearance can be difficult in spots. You can purchase a tour guide ride. It's dusty may want enclosed ride. Enjoy it's beautiful

Definitely take a tour, even if you are also going to drive it yourself. You will see other amazing areas in the back country and have a guide to share history and talk about the Navajo.

Monument Valley is one of the most beautiful places in the desert southwest. I love the seclusion and lack of huge numbers of tourists

As a person of indigenous ancestry, it was incomparable. Stop driving fast. Look. And really see. It's incredible.

Take a tour! You don't experience the Valley or the reservation by just driving through it on the highway!

Take a tour while you are there. Do not drive your own vehicle. The roads are difficult and you risk damage to your car.
