"The guy on reception was very helpful and allowed us to move rooms as the first one was very dark and had a strange aroma. Our second room was lighter and spacious but sadly the aircon unit tripped the lights and sockets. Breakfast was not the best and only had frozen gluten free bread as a gluten free option. I can understand why some people like it, but we wouldn’t book again."

"A beautiful, warm and welcoming hotel. The staff were so helpful in making our stay in Victoria really special. Our room was spacious and very well equipped to make it a comfortable retreat from our sightseeing. We appreciated the extensive, breakfast which was served at the table. Only one comment is that you have to book a time slot on arrival and it was fully booked apart from 7am which was a little early. "Beautiful place to stay. The highlight is the breakfast prepared by a chef, and the lovely deer that were grazing outside. It’s also a short walk up the street to the lieutenant governor’s residence with the lovely walking trails and Craigdarroch castle."

"Location was everything about the empress. Great food at the hotel and near with walkable access to the heart of Victoria. Highly recommend renting a car as a lot of cool castles and beaches are close drives away. The garden was fantastic and live music and salmon at the hotel restaurant was great ."

Toilet paper holder was stuck on the side of a cabinet. Outside looked run down and most people appeared to be permanent residents."
