The beach area was amazing, 10 out of 10! However, the service was not up to expectations. From the moment we arrived, the place was full of people and staff, but everyone seemed to be overwhelmed, making it difficult to enjoy our experience. Although there were many activities, the staff was not friendly and more focused on receiving tips rather than providing good service. This was not our first experience with an all-inclusive hotel; we’ve stayed at a smaller boutique one, and it was completely different than what the Riu provided.
The drinks selection was premade and felt cheap, and while the food was good, it could have been better given the reputation of the property.
Another area of concern for us was the state pf the room. It looked decent and clean, but there was a really bad humidity smell and feel (it made me sick, which never happens).
Lastly, before I booked my reservation I requested a birthday something for my husband. I was willing to pay for whatever. The day of arrival I reminded the team and they said they would accommodate but never gave him anything, not a note, or anything special.
Overall, I would not stay at a Riu property in Punta Cana. I would rather pay less at a smaller resort and tip the staff that deserves to be tipped.
