Disliked: Property conditions & facilities
The room was very clean and the staff was helpful, but the furniture has seen a better day and the refrigerator even had rust on the door. The safe was broken and you had to go to the front desk to get a hair dryer. And there was a gap under the door which allowed all the hallway noise to come in. IN addition, there's no sign on the outside of the building and the entrance is behind a iron gate so I was not sure I was at the right building, but I rung the bell anyway and luckily it was the correct door.
Good with excellent service but septic system has a problem...so can't use toilet paper really. No train noise which is a bonus in SJ though the dance studio across the road does its best to compete.
Cozy little family-owned hotel in San Jose. Like many places in San Jose, it is closed up like a prison, with bars and locks to get through. Once inside, the family that runs the place couldn't have been nicer. We arrived at their mealtime and they offered us a share of their own lunch! Really great folks. The room was spotless and clean. The bed reasonably comfortable by Costa Rican standards. The bathroom was clean and will need some updating/renovation/repair soon. The shower handle fell off. Overall, a very nice place for the price. Highly recommended.
The folks running this hotel are exceptionally nice and hospitable, and I enjoyed the week that I spent there. They were were accommodating when I asked to hold one of my interviews in a public space at the hotel, and they arranged my taxi pickups. They even helped me figure out how to use the cell phone I bought for making local calls! The only problem I encountered was with the wifi, which tended to disconnect during rain storms and periodically during the day. This was just a temporary problem that might not affect others who are traveling for vacation or during the dry season.
Just completed a 4 night stay with Carlos, Naty, and Marvin. Very comfortable. They make you feel like you are home. Lots of dining choices close by, and buses into downtown 2 blocks away. Could not have been more pleased!
Nathaly & her husband are extremely helpful and caring hosts! We highly recommend staying here! It is in a quiet, safe neighborhood that is close to supermarkets, restaurants and bars. The hotell is clean and well equipped. Thanks for providing us with delicious personal breakfast & making my stay very comfortable
The hotel is located in the Los Yoses area of San Jose. We picked this place because of the reviews and it lived up to all the good ones we read. Carlos, Naty, and Marvin (the cat) make you feel like family when you arrive. We were given a local cell phone programed with their numbers-just in case we needed it, a map, and a bunch of good recommendations for things to do/see/eat in the surrounding area. We had breakfast at the hotel and it was great! There is a grocery store, outdoor mall, and indoor mall/movie theater just a couple of blocks away. Also, just a short walk away is Starbucks-we're from Seattle :) A little further away are museums, parks, and a local market...my suggestion to anyone looking for souvenirs is to buy them at the market across from the National Museum and if you're looking for coffee get it from Carlos. You can walk to the museums, parks, and market or take the city bus, cab, or use Uber to get around. The room we had was spacious, two beds, clean, big bathroom, a small refrigerator, TV (we never turned it on because we were always out exploring), a safe, and great WIFI. One thing to note, the rooms do not have A/C, but are equipped with fans. All in all we had a great time staying here and if we ever go back to Costa Rica we will be sure to stay here again.
If you do not speak English this is the place for you to stay. Short walk to bus 2 blks then straoight to casino or you can take a taxi 6 dollars. Quiet safe neighborhood.
The couple who owns this hotel is amazing! They were there to give us recommendations and even called to set things up for us. Close to the Universidad, there is plenty to walk to shopping, eating and drinking wise.
The hotel is very nice and in a good location. The thing that makes it really special is the friendliness and helpfulness of the owners. We had some issues with luggage and without Carlos' help we would have had a very difficult time. We will definitely stay there each time that we visit San Jose.
Had some budget cuts and decided to stay here for location. The owners were leasing the place - very talkative (almost inappropriately so), short-staffed (it was just them and one employee). The power went off in the hotel for one afternoon and no one was there to turn it back on. They have a cat roaming around in there - I'm allergic.
I suppose for the price it's fine, but it's not 4 stars. They're used to receiving a certain kind of budget-travel tourist and are very much oriented towards that profile - if this is your profile, you may enjoy it a lot.
For business travelers, I strongly recommend looking elsewhere.
The hotel is located in a quiet residential area, but close to a mall and several restaurants. Although too far to walk to downtown San Jose, it is a seven minute bus ride no busses run frequently.
Carlos and Natalie, the hotel operators, provided a level of service and support which can only be described as above and beyond. They provided pre-programmed cell phones if you needed help/while away from the hotel. They would personally accompany you to the restaurant area and were just personably friendly.
What a gem of a place! Simple, nothing fancy, but Carlos and Naty, the proprietors were so warm and welcoming. They went the extra mile to make us feel comfortable and drank beers with us while we watched the bullfights on their TV. Both were fluent in English and my family considered inviting them to join the rest of our trip.
Carlos & Naty were wonderful hosts! They were so friendly and welcoming right from the start. My room was clean and uniquely decorated, with all the comforts I would want in a hotel. Carlos made sure I found a great spot for dinner. In the morning I was served a wonderful breakfast of fruits, juice, coffee, eggs, bacon, hash browns, and bread. I enjoyed the conversations with Carlos and Naty. They really are wonderful people who made me feel like family. I wish I could've stayed longer.
