"The floor was filthy. There was sand everywhere. The washer and dryer need proper maintenance performed. It took several cycles to get the laundry clean and dry. The kitchen did not have everything necessary to cook and the dishes had not been washed prior to our arrival. The hot water heater is in need of either a good cleaning or repairs as the hot water only lasted a few moments before running out. There was no extra bedding for the pull out sofa bed. The Island Resort at Fort Walton Beach

2/10 Terrible

"Beware: photos of this property are misleading. If I could give 0 stars I would. The hotel is old and extremely rundown. Dirty, old, poor quality. The lobby is well kept but that’s where it ends. The hallway to the rooms was our first indication that things were not maintained. Dirty walls, old smelly carpet and no AC. The room is not well maintained, peeling wallpaper noticeably dirty. Shower was dirty and old caulking peeling everywhere. Hole under the sink. Old toilet. Needless to say, we were not comfortable staying here. This is NOT a four or even three star hotel. It is NOT a resort. Pool had worn out chairs and you could tell it isn’t well maintained. Walls and door are paper thin. We checked out the next morning. We left to Hotel Effie which was a life saver, a true luxury stay. I would never stay at the Island again or recommend anyone to stay there. The only positive is its location on the beach. Expedia helped us make it right which I’m thankful for."

"This hotel it is a good choice, it has a great location, all the rooms have ocean view, free parking and breakfast included, for the price it was a great choice, another great thing housekeeping comes every day to do your room, without you having to ask, rare for hotels these days. As soon as I walked my room it smelled clean and it looked clean, the breakfast ladies were really nice also a guy that look like a grounds keeper, sorry I didn't ask the names. Overall the hotel was a great experience. Just the beach wasn't I think they were tripping a little bit about the high surf and they had the double red flag for about 3 to 4 days people were not able to enjoy the ocean. I had been on other beaches with about the same high surf and this didn't happen, but well this is something different not hotels' fault but I wanted to shared this as well in case you are planning to visit Pensacola."

"At first my daughter and I were ready to leave regardless of what the penalties were going to be. The room is a bit dated, smelled funny, felt muggy, and the blinds had to be forced down, BUT, we decided to stay a night and if we still felt that way the next day, we would find somewhere else to go. We went to the beach which was just across some stairs, a super quick walk, and it was beautiful. There are chairs and umbrellas for rent and food/bar nearby. The bed was very comfortable and had good pillows. The TV does not have APPS on them like Netflix or anything and when we tried to set it up to be able to cast, it locked us out and maintenance had to come reset it. Oops. But because of the beach and comfortability of the bed, we did end up staying another night. It did seem to be the best bang for your buck on a tight budget and still be ON the beach. Overall, will stay again."

"Good points: Location (even with the road work), breakfast buffet and staff (Awesome group of breakfast staff), and upper deck staff great. Beach was not overcrowded and we could see further down it was. Poor points: Front desk staff. When I checked in I felt rushed even though there was no one else checking in. After traveling a period of time no one is going to remember everything but rushed like that made it 10x worse. Next day try to get more info at front desk, different person, and it was a rude experience. So needless to say the $25 day destination fee that you are supposed to be able get back I wasn't sure where all I could go to have things charged to the room to get that money back. I didn't want to be charge something instead of credit so 90% of that money I did not get back."

"Hot tub was nice pool was nice I do think they need more slip mats around pool some little bit fell and busted his head. Yez they shouldn't have been running but I also think about the elderly trying to enjoy as well. But everything exceeded our expectations we came for our anniversary we will be back !"
