Confusion about the check-in date (due to the time difference on the booking app & the destination, which was an innocent mistake). While we were willing to pay for the extra night, the hotel staff refused to accommodate us, so we had to sleep in the car with our small children that night until the room became available the next day. Even then, the hotel did not accommodate early check-in, even when we offered to pay for the additional hours/time. When it was finally time for check-in, the process was challenging. To add insult to injury, the hotel illegally charged us twice on our credit card, & we had to contact them numerous times to get our money back. Overall, an unwelcoming environment. There was a fire alarm & smoke, & we had to evacuate on one of the days during our stay. The local fire trucks showed up. Guests were confused & congregated in various spots around the hotel parking lot. Some guests decided to get in their cars & leave. The staff did not appear to know what to do. The hallways smelled smoky, & the staff were disorganized & confused about protocols in accounting for guests & maintaining guest morale. The indoor smoke from the hotel exacerbated preexisting outdoor air pollution from the recent fires. There was no clarification of what happened, an apology for the inconvenience & stress caused by the incident, or any reimbursement for the inconvenience we experienced. We do not know whether the hotel reimbursed or gave monetary credit to any other guests.
