"We liked how clean and fresh this property was. We found it very comfortable. Milk, teabags, coffee, wheaten bread, butter, cheese, oil and spices were all provided, as well as fresh flowers. There was an abundance of local animals to enjoy watching: horses, cows, sheep and housemartins. The pool table in the sun room was a welcome addition. All the bedrooms were spacious with excellent quality bedding. The downstairs master suite was particularly attractive. We would love to return! "

North West Castle Hotel

8/10 Good

"The hotel room was spacious and clean with no excess flourishes such as multiple cushions that cover the bed and end up taking floor space. Breakfast, included in the price, was excellent, I especially enjoyed the haggis in my Scottish breakfast. I stayed for one night and used the bar once, the staff were efficient and the options good. My room faced south and had no air conditioning, and in this hot summer that proved a problem as the room temp was in excess of 30C, making the room extremely uncomfortable. The fan I borrowed from reception did nothing but blow hot air around. To be comfortable I had to sit in the room with a wet towel around me and sleep on top of the bed. There were no electric sockets beside the bed and few in the room, so charging phones etc. meant juggling with plugs. I ate dinner in the restaurant and ordered a scottish beef burger, but since they would not do it the way I liked it (medium rare) due to their concerns over my well being, I ordered the pork loin instead, which came out under-cooked and had to be sent back for further few minutes under the grill. I was not warned that the plate was red hot. So I thought it ironic that the chef will not serve beef unless it is burnt, but happy to serve raw pork."

"Booked a room for 3 nights and on arrival discovered that we had been allocated a self contained garden flat in the adjoining property. Flat was a great 'upgrade' as we were not looking forward to a hot stuffy hotel room given the sunny weather and temperatures in high 20 c .... Flat was clean and well equipped with kitchen / lounge with access to private garden ..bedroom and shower room....most of all it was nice and cool. Decor is a little tired and could do with a refresh but did not effect an extremely enjoyable stay... Staff in the hotel were exceptionally friendly and helpful whilst the food was very good , reasonably priced and large portions. Overall a great little hotel with on street parking right next to the harbour."

"Fantastic wild location - remote, but not too far from Stranraer. Some great local walks, and sunsets. The hotel is quiet, small and unique. Our dog was very welcome, and got extra treats for breakfast. The food was amazing - surprising, given the remote location. Room was clean and spacious, and the staff were all very friendly. There's an EV charger just next to the hotel, which was a welcome bonus. Definitely recommended."

"Glenapp was the last stop before home, on our NC500 honeymoon. The staff as always were delightful & very helpful. The welcome is always special here & there were plenty of help to carry all our unorganised belongings to accomodate us all. This time we had our dog with us & Glenapp's policy suited us well, he had a welcom pack & was made extremely comfortable. Our room was spacious & well maintained. We dont expect dogs to be allowed in the restaurant area & the policy was that Ozzy was aloud to stay behind in the room. We ate in the potting shed of the Azalea, We were greeted by Jen, a lovely chatty, bubbly & profesional resturant manager. As we ate early & the other couples didn't have an issue, she very kindly allowed us to have ozzy sitting quietly at our table. It shouldn't be expected but honestly just the small personal touches & personalities is what make your stay special. We will be back to try our the new "Nest" Many Thanks"
