"We had a wonderful time at this ryokan. We chose this inn specifically for its remote location and traditional atmosphere and were not disappointed. The hotel, outdoor onsen, and woodsy surroundings were all excellent. The building is old and reminded me of the railroad lodges of the western United States: creaky old doors and floors, metal keys, and rotary dial phones.
Other than the hotel, there are no restaurants nearby (that I know of) and dinner is an elaborate kaiseki ryori that requires...
"You can’t do much better than this when staying in Takayama. Right next to the station and walking distance to key attractions. The family suite was amazing and my daughters loved the camping play room and projector. The breakfast was perfect and the staff couldn’t be any more helpful. Great value stay!"

Takayama in springtime is lovely, we were there for the Spring festival with cherry blossoms in full bloom, recommend. Plenty of day trips can do from there too. Even at festival time, restaurants and bars close pretty early, so go out early.

Excellent place to see Edo period of buildings and streets without too much tourism. We went during end of December and it snowed. We had a very beautiful and enjoyable stay.

Takayama is a nice place to visit, it is convenient to most city in japan by train or bus. But please take note that the popular restaurants there are always long queue! Dinner start at 5 to 8pm. Popular restaurant by 5pm or by 6pm Q ended!

Loved the idea of a stamp rally. My kids enjoyed collecting the stamps and we enjoyed visiting the various places around town.
