"I have stayed in many bed and breakfast hotels across Europe and Italy. This is by far the best I have ever stayed. The location is not super fantastic. It’s next to a main road but we can’t hear anything in the room. The room is simple but super super clean and well maintained. Comes with very clean toilet and shower. Mini fridge. Our window looks out to groves of olive tree. Highly recommended!"

Showers were very small. Bathrooms smelled a bit - plumbing problems perhaps need fixing.

"Stayed here for one night. Grounds are very pretty and hotel is based on the side of quite a steep hill so quite a lot of stairs and ramps. There are some lifts to parts of property but not all and they are in odd locations, for example one led to a pitch black banquet hall that you needed to pass through. "to begin with I have to admit I liked the 501 against my better judgement at times but the location and views allows a lot to be forgiven.
I can imagine the 501 in its glory days would have been spectacular. the architecture is still on place and quality never goes out of style.
however the old girl does look a little tired and could benefit from a little renovation in places.
the staff, mainly Italian or course and many locals, can be a little abrupt or disinterested when they are busy...
