Godaulia
At Godaulia, Varanasi's bustling heart, spiritual energy flows through ancient lanes lined with colourful shops. The golden spires of Kashi Vishwanath Temple rise above the crowds of devotees and curious travellers. Narrow pathways lead to nearby ghats where evening aartis illuminate the sacred Ganges. Street vendors sell everything from religious items to famous Banarasi silks and sweet lassi. Navigate the medieval maze by cycle rickshaw or on foot. The district connects visitors to Dasaswamedh ghat and other key attractions while offering a glimpse into Varanasi's timeless spiritual traditions.

Sigra
Sigra reveals Varanasi's spiritual soul away from the main tourist areas. Ancient temples with ornate spires and saffron walls fill this authentic area. Devotees ring brass bells at countless shrines while incense smoke drifts through narrow lanes. Traditional silk shops and religious artefact vendors line the bustling Sigra Road. The area balances commercial energy with pockets of peaceful residential life. Morning prayers and evening aartis showcase unchanged Hindu traditions that travellers can experience first-hand. Temple courtyards provide tranquil retreats from the lively markets. Walking to the sacred Ganges ghats takes just 15 minutes through winding streets.

Lanka
Lanka offers a peaceful retreat from Varanasi's bustling ghats, with tree-lined streets and authentic local life. The prestigious Banaras Hindu University campus creates a scholarly atmosphere with its historic buildings and green spaces. Visit the notable Bharat Kala Bhavan museum to explore impressive art collections. Small area temples dot the quiet residential streets where daily life moves at a gentler pace. The area provides comfortable walking experiences with minimal tourist crowds. Auto-rickshaws and cycle-rickshaws make getting to Varanasi's famous riverside attractions like Assi Ghat convenient and straightforward.
Varanasi Nagar Nigam
Varanasi Nagar Nigam reveals the soul of ancient India through its sacred landscapes. The golden spires of Kashi Vishwanath Temple rise above narrow lanes filled with saffron-robed sadhus. Stone ghats cascade down to the sacred Ganges where pilgrims perform dawn rituals amid floating marigolds. Walk the labyrinthine streets echoing with temple bells and Sanskrit chants. Traditional vegetarian eateries and silk merchants occupy centuries-old buildings showcasing intricate architecture. Experience the mesmerising evening Ganga Aarti ceremony with locals as oil lamps illuminate the river.

Mahmoorganj
Mahmoorganj bustles with energy as local vendors display colourful textiles, electronics, and handicrafts along narrow streets. The aroma of street food mingles with incense from nearby temples, creating an authentic Varanasi experience. Bargaining is expected in this budget-friendly shopping paradise. This commercial hub serves mainly locals, making it perfect for travellers seeking genuine Indian culture away from tourist traps. Auto-rickshaws and cycle-rickshaws navigate the congested lanes where budget guesthouses offer simple accommodation. The sacred Ganges River remains just a short ride away.

Top Varanasi Hotel Reviews
DoubleTree by Hilton Varanasi
"It was a good stay in Varanasi"
Trilok Residency
"I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at Trilok Residency. The standout feature of this property is definitely the incredible hospitality and helpful management. Navigating the crowded Varanasi streets can be overwhelming, but the staff went completely out of their way to help. They provided an amazing porter service and even dropped me off on a bike through the damn busy streets to ensure I made it easily. On top of that, they arranged highly reliable and genuine cabs for my airport pickups and drops, as well as a trip to Prayagraj. While the location itself in the narrow lanes can be a bit challenging to navigate, the staff's unmatched helpfulness and care completely make up for it. I highly recommend staying here if you want peace of mind during your Kashi trip!"
HOTEL DOLPHIN GRAND
"Really clean room & good shower with a functiong mixer tap unlike a lot of hotels in India. The housekeeping, reception, travel agency & food/beverage teams were all excellent. You could tell they were proud of working for the hotel. I would rate it as the best hotel in my 3 week stay in India."
Taj Nadesar Palace
"The property lives up to its promise. What was a genuine 11/10 was the staff - they went over and above to ensure that my guests had a great stay from the minute they landed at the airport to the time they took off. Big shout out to Kaif who helped coordinate it all within minutes of booking. Great experience overall and a no brainer if you're looking to book a hotel in the city."
Radisson Hotel Varanasi
"Thankyou for take away breakfast as I went for darshanam."
Dwivedi Hotels Sri Omkar Palace
"Its was safe, family friendly and staff was exceptionally helpful to move around and support every way. Definitely recommend to other for a calm, blissful and peaceful stay. Neatness and water was an issue. The rooftop restaurant was good but missed to have the authentic Varanasi food."
BrijRama Palace, Varanasi - By the Ganges
"Fabulous hotel with a historic ambience and modern amenities – including a fancy bidet toilet!"
Amritara Suryauday Haveli
"Hotel is quite basic for the rates charged. It requires updating and more 3 pin plug sockets. The location is perfect for prayers etc as it's by the river. The restaurant serves extremely nice veg food at a reasonable price."
Ekam Kashi
"I stayed at Ekam Kashi for three days and had a great experience. Archana at the front desk was very helpful and welcoming. The kitchen, Jathragani, served excellent food, especially the dinner thali. The restaurant staff, Neha, Lucky, and Akash, were warm and made us feel like family. The location is a big plus."
