Just a little east of Vossevangen on the road to Bergen. The timing was just right to see this beautiful scene.
The Viking village in Gudvangen is a wonderful new addition to Norway's rich history preservation efforts. It is located perfectly within the fjords and yes... that is a Viking ship in the corner.
The first church here was built of wood, but it was replaced by a stone church in 1277. In a royal letter dating from 1271, King Magnus Lagabøte expressed his satisfaction that the parishioners were going to replace the wood building with a stone one, and he urged the continuation and completion of the task. When it was finished in 1277, the church was dedicated to Saint Michael. Restoration work was carried out on the church between 1919 and 1953

Great location next to station and gondola. Friendly staff and room was clean. We enjoyed the shuffleboard in the bar area, and breakfast was worth having. Small issues were the fridge in the room didn’t work very well, and the chromecast to TV also didn’t work.
