We do require a deposit in case some well meaning guest accidently sets fire to their room or something happens. I do not know who helped you, but I suggest to all my guests not to use a Debit card at a Rental Car agency or a Hotel just because of the delay returning excess holds on my real money, whereas Credit cards are usually 24 hours after departure. Hopefully you will be in the area and give us another chance!
