"There was no lift and although staff helped me with my case,I still had to climb up and down to the 2nd floor. I had asked for a lower room because I have severe heart failure, despite having booked in January, there were many people, far fitter than me on the 1st floor.
My room was clean but the curtain was not hanging properly. Many of the carpets need a clean, so did the big window on the stairs which was filthy with cobwebs,
The garden needed tidying up, there were cigarette butts...

"Had to ask for a room change on arrival as too many steps at various intervals on way to room
E.g bathroom had 2 step drop into the room. Not ideal for elderly couple. Having said rhat one has to remember that it is one of the oldest buildings in the town. This was our second stay there and will be back

"It's a lovely old hotel BUT... There's no lift and for me, age 77, the 50 stairs up to my room, and back down, were not easy to manage. The hotel, as at April 2026, is undergoing some renovation which made things more awkward and left a lot of mess and dirt around. There was no help to get suitcases upstairs. Having said that the staff were all lovely people and breakfast was good. The car park is useful but a bit of distance from the hotel and up a hill to get out of the car park and down again...

"Booked and paid last year for room with king bed. Didnt get that. No explanation why from staff. Room was in old part with no ventilation and double bed that needed to be replaced years ago. Pillows were terrible. Floors created and shower water got stuck on scalding and needed to be fixed. All over very disappointing stay. "

"The building is centuries old, so keep that in mind. The stairs are not always level, but they manage to provide modern amenities. The restaurant is a favorite among locals for good reason. And the House is across the street from the cathedral. So convenient."

"Great location, easy parking and the cathedral view was a dream! Actually looked like a painting when you pulled the curtains back 😍. Staff were really efficient and friendly, what a amazing city break."

"Unsatisfactory. No kettle in the room—I had to ask twice. Restaurant service was slow and inattentive. The steak pie had very little gravy, and the same staff member was on her phone at the service counter, so I couldn’t request more. No offer of dessert. The bedroom door emits a mini alarm when opened, which is irritating late at night. The walls are thin, with corridor doors slamming and disrupting sleep. At breakfast, up to five staff were gathered near reception, coming and going for drinks,...
