"Our first visit to Costa Rica. We were impressed by the hospitality and friendliness of the Costa Rican people. The hotel is clean, the rooms are spacious, and include a TV, air conditioning, a safe, bathroom amenities, bed linens, and a coffee machine. A shuttle service to and from the airport is available. The car, frankly, isn't very comfortable (especially if you have large luggage), but that's not the main issue. We had a decent breakfast: an omelet, fruit, juice, coffee, a slice of bacon, cheese, butter, and jam. The staff is pleasant, but not everyone speaks English. The reception staff was great! They were welcoming and friendly! The grounds around the hotel are beautifully maintained, and the pool is clean. Birds sing in the mornings, and the air is incredibly fresh. People from big cities will understand! Overall, Costa Rica has incredible nature, climate, and ocean views! We loved the hotel. We recommend it and will come back again! "I doubt you can find a better view of the Arenal Volcano than at Arenal Observatory Lodge, plus the property is gorgeous and filled with wildlife (so many birds and a troop of monkeys swung by one evening). This isn't a fancy place — more old school — but if you're looking for a peaceful space to reset and experience nature, it's perfect. We'd stay here again."

"This place was the highlight of our trip in Costa Rica. Usually a hotel is a hotel but these guys are on to something with this place. The property is immaculate and something out of a fairy tale. They offer lots of tours on site if you don’t want to traipse around too far and have more of a relaxed stay. Otherwise it’s not hard to get out to all the places la fortuna has to offer. If you’re not into driving and don’t want to go into town for dinner, it might be tricky for a longer stay as I imagine you’d get a bit bored of the menus but there’s enough variety between the two that you would be fine. My only annoyance was the speaker phone by the main pool- walkie talkies might make more sense for the staff instead of hearing the loud phone ring over the intercom. "
