"A family of 4, we had 2 rooms. Owners were faultless throughout our too-short stay! Breakfast was fantastic, plenty choice, freshly cooked options and self-serve cereal, fruit etc. Comfortable beds, beautiful setting and interior. I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again"

"I upgraded my room which put us in a larger room on the front of the hotel. It was a bank holiday weekend and hot. We had to open our windows as there is no air conditioning. This was the downfall of our stay. The local bars had blaring music going until 02:00 and then across the road from the hotel is a taxi rank so we then had all the noise of the revellers attempting to get taxis. We did not get a wink of sleep until around 03:00. Then at 06:00 the council came round with road sweepers and guys with leaf blowers making a real racket. So our stay gave us around 3 hours of sleep. Now this outside noise is not the hotel's fault but they could have warned us because if they had we would not have accepted this room. I did ring down to reception at around 01:30 but they said they were fully booked so could not move us. In the morning I naturally went to reception and made my complaint. Their initial response was that this was not their fault. I said that they could alleviate this with noise reduction glazing, air conditioning etc. We cannot do any of this was their reply because the building is listed. Well this is not the case as unknown to them my wife works in the insurance industry as a surveyor and can be classed as an expert on this matter. Natalie looked after our complaint and offered us 2 free breakfasts and money off. I was not happy with this and asked for 50% off. Natalie sorted this and followed us up on the phone so well done to her"

"I rarely write reviews — I’m usually the one reading them. However, I felt I had to share our experience to help others make an informed decision, just as I tried to do for my family. I’ve stayed at Ibis hotels before and have always had good experiences, so I arrived with fairly high expectations. Unfortunately, the Ibis Carlisle did not meet those expectations at all. The hotel appears to be poorly maintained, with visible maintenance issues throughout. While it’s not the hotel’s fault, the surrounding area also felt quite rough, which added to our concerns — particularly about leaving our car in the car park overnight. Both of our rooms had multiple issues, including stains, marks, maintenance problems, unpleasant smells, and an overall lack of cleanliness. The condition of the hotel was nothing like the photos online, which feel very outdated. Given the price, we expected a much better standard, but this wasn’t the case. We ended up staying for less than 30 minutes before deciding to leave. To their credit, the staff were helpful and offered us a full refund, which we appreciated and did not expect."

"The room was clean, but overall the hotel felt dated and in need of refurbishment. There was noticeable wear and damage to the skirting boards and furnishings, and the same could be said for the third-floor corridors and the lift. While the bathroom was in slightly better condition, it still felt tired and could do with updating. There was also no fridge in the room. The walls were extremely thin, meaning noise from neighbouring rooms carried very easily. I’m not usually a light sleeper, but I can imagine this would be a significant issue for many guests. The bar area looked pleasant enough, although I didn’t use it myself. I also chose not to have breakfast, as the additional £18 per day for my two-night stay felt overpriced. On the positive side, the location is very good - it’s only a short walk into the town centre, with two lovely parks nearby. There’s also a scenic walk to Threlkeld along the converted railway line, which starts near the leisure centre just a couple of minutes away. The route is around 6.4 miles there and back. Overall, I feel I would have been better off spending a little extra to stay somewhere of a higher standard. Even a Premier Inn would likely have been an improvement. The main advantage of the Keswick Country House Hotel was the included on-site parking."

"Room was spacious and clean with everything you need. It was a bit hot in the room due to the weather but a fan was provided. All the staff were really friendly and helpful. Breakfast was very good with plenty of choice. Bar/restaurant was very nice but was let down by slow service on the evening in part due to a lot of the guest coming in all together. Although there is on site parking this is very limited and you may need to park overnight in the public parking area at an additional cost."
