The Monterey Hotel

4/10 Poor

"We were really disappointed with our stay at this hotel. The photos online are extremely misleading and do not reflect the actual condition of the property. When we arrived, we genuinely didn’t even recognize it from the exterior because it looked so different—far more run-down and dated in person. Inside, the hotel felt very dingy. The carpets were visibly dirty and stained to the point where we didn’t feel comfortable placing any bags or purses on the floor unless they could be wiped down afterward. Overall cleanliness and upkeep were not what we expected based on the listing. One particularly uncomfortable experience happened early in the morning. As a mom of two currently in my first trimester, I was feeling nauseous and went down to the lobby restroom to avoid waking my family. While quietly waiting for the nausea to pass, hotel staff came and banged on the door, questioning whether I was a guest and asking me to leave. Even after explaining the situation, the interaction felt invasive and lacking in basic privacy and courtesy. The only real positive was the location—it is within walking distance to many nearby attractions, which was convenient. Theres a nice walking trail nearby which we enjoyed using. That said, we would strongly suggest looking into other nearby hotels for a more comfortable and welcoming experience."
