Cool place to stay with a couple of quirks.

Cool place to stay with a couple of quirks. Room is large with comfortable beds, fridge, fireplace, jetted tub, double sinks, and a large shower. The quirks are that you have to check into the casino next door, there's no staff at the hotel (although maid service is provided), there's no ice machine that I could find, and there is no door on the little room that the toilet is in. I would stay there again.

Clean and comfortable. Large rooms with very nice bath rooms. Only negative was no room service. But overall EXCELLENT.. We will return.

Nice hotel, but NO DOOR to the bathroom.

Yiu have to go into the casino to check in and our phone didn't work. Also, no door or curtain to separate the bathroom. Bizarre.. On a positive note - the bed was super comfortable

Beautiful warm hotel

Loved the hotel room. Eye clean tidy and loved the fireplace !!

Bathroom has no door, tub needs a warning

The bathroom has a privacy curtain but no door! Quirky little hotel. Check in is next door at the casino. Two stars because some really easy improvements needed. First, put a door in the bathroom. Second, add a sign in the room explaining the chromathetapy tub has a clean cycle that will automatically count down after the tub was last wet. The jets spontaneously came on after we were already in bed, and scared both of us! Luckily, the internet gave the answer to the haunted tub. Third, some weatherstripping around the room door could help. Whenever someone enters the main door the pressure change in the hallways causes the room door to hit against the frame. For the good: check in next door at the casino was very easy, and manager was personable.

The room itself was reasonably spacious and comfortable. Large bathroom, deep tub and separate shower. Registration via the Casino was a little inconvenient.

Attractive room in a comfortable setting.

The hotel and room were both attractive and properly priced. The bed was comfortable. Large and nicely appointed bathroom. Everything was going great until the security system malfunctioned and began beeping at 2:16 am. Security had it fixed within 15 minutes but it totally interrupted my sleep.

What a gem of a hotel, at an affordable price.

The rooms are fantastic and quiet. Check in is through the casino next door, so the only staff you see in the adjacent Border House are cleaners during the day, which was just fine for me. Just a lovely place.

Dark...

Dark room with little lighting, no door on the bathroom, shower flooded the bathroom because of ill-fitting shower curtain. No amenities...super expensive!

Odd sort of place attached to a casino, but quite

We didn't really know what to expect at the Border House, but overall we were happy with what we got. The odd bits were that the Border House was just that- it looked and felt like a private house. There was no check-in facility inside, we had to go into the casino to find the check-in desk, so that was a bit complicated. The other odd thing was that there was a gas fireplace in the room which was also open to the bathroom, overlooking the bathtub. In theory this could be quite lovely if you were at the hotel as an intimate couple, but we were there as a family with nearly adult children, so it led to some embarrassment to basically to visual access from the bedroom to everything going on in the bathroom. But other than that, we really liked the place. It was surprisingly quiet, reasonably convenient to Squaw Valley and Northstar. There was a little restaurant inside the casino that had great breakfast and dinner specials and there was ample garage parking close by.

Amazing room

Absolutely love this little hidden jewel. From the decor, lighting and comfort. Very well done. Perfect for a romantic getaway. Just remember too go inside the Crystal Bay to check in. The Players Club counter.

Great location, clean rooms, party spot.

Great rooms and beds. Kuerig coffee, robes, great soaps comfy bed and linens. If you want a quite night sleep, maybe not the place. Awesome party location. Mellow Fellow bar is close by with numerous beer on tap. Friendly locals and good conversation. Dogs allowed.

Very nice room, inconvenient check in

The room was absolutely fantastic - gas fireplace in bedroom and bathroom, tv in bedroom and bathroom, whirlpool bathtub, double sinks, comfy beds, robes, etc. However, the check in is located inside the casino next door and I spent close to 10 minutes walking around the hotel building looking for an entrance that wasn't key card activated. There needs to be some signs telling you where to go. Parking was also inconvenient - the lot adjacent to the hotel has only a few spots and I had to park in the casino lot and walk over (and make several trips to carry my bags - no luggage carts). There is no elevator and that was an unpleasant surprise, as my room was located on the second floor and I had to haul my bags up. There were at least three floors so I should be happy I was only on the second floor. The walls are very thin and I could hear every noise from the hallway and some from the neighboring room. I was awoken at 2:30 AM by some very loud and drunk people in the hallway - wish I had had a front desk to call to deal with them.

Anniversary

The check in was a little sketchy but the room was absolutely fantastic. Great layout, very spacious, comfortable bed, water in the fridge, selection of coffees and tea, nice furnishings and great shower and separate jetted tub

A Lovely Inn

This is a small historic inn with fully updated rooms (marble, granite, frameless shower doors etc.) There aren't any great views and it isn't lake front, but the location on the North Shore of Lake Tahoe is excellent and there is lots to do nearby. Amenities include Keurig coffeemaker, flat screen TV and bathrobes. Our room was of average size, but all we needed for the two of us. I believe that they have some larger rooms upstairs, but haven't seen them. We like the first floor in order to avoid hauling luggage up the stairs. Our air conditioner "froze up" the first day, but they sent someone to fix it right away. It was a great stay and we're going back in a couple of weeks.

Great stay at Border House.

This turned out to be a wonderful experience. This is a small place with only 9 rooms, and they are lovely. Since the property is owned by the Crystal Bay Casino, you actually check in thru the casino and it is not attached. It is beautifully decorated, the rooms are spacious, bathroom large and very nice. I almost hate to recommend it, so it can remain a secret, but I will.

Excellent hotel close to casinos.

As everyone else has stated, interesting check in. It would be nice to have something posted to show you where to go. Staff was nice. Although we didn't know where our room was, so it took a few to get settled in. Pictures do not do this room justice. Only true complaint was the road noise. But we were aware of this because of the reviews.

Great place to stay

The room was wonderful. The shower as huge , the bed was comfotable and the room was really updated and clean. We had our own balcony and it was very romantic.

Great for couples!

This hotel is so unique and so luxurious! Do not be fooled by the exterior. The room was pristine and had great style. Everything was very clean and the room had a very cool contemporary style. Bed was super comfortable and I loved the spacious bathroom! It's perfect for a weekend away with your spouse or honeymoon etc. Very romantic. fireplace, jacuzzi, etc. LOVED IT. so different and fun. I would definitely stay here again.

Nice hotel bad service

The hotel is really comfortable, but it took us a while to find the check in which is done on the other end of the street i side the casino. The staff was bad, but the hotel nice.

A real gem!

We enjoyed it so much that we made reservations for another stay before we left! Also strongly reccomend the steak and lobster restaurant! Our waiter James was excellent!
