- Flying can be a cruisy experience if you've got all the right things. Firstly, you'll need basic toiletry items, such as deodorant, toothpaste and a toothbrush, a fresh set of clothes and a few magazines. Next, make room in your carry-on bag for your mobile phone, a charger, your important medications and maybe a neck pillow as well. Lastly, remember to take your passport, travel documents and your credit cards.
Do not pack the following items in your hand luggage:
- While the list of banned items can differ between airlines, the general guide to follow is avoid carrying anything sharp, flammable or explosive. This includes screwdrivers, blades, fuel and fireworks. Sports equipment like ice skates, and objects that could harm other people, such as guns and swords, can't come on board with you either.
What to wear on a flight:
- The narrow aisles of your airplane are not the best place for a fashion parade. Layer up with comfortable clothing and take a sweater as the temperature can drop inside the cabin during long-haul flights. Enclosed, flat shoes are also a good choice.
- You've probably heard about DVT (deep vein thrombosis), a blood clot condition caused by reduced mobility or inactivity. There's lots you can do to lower your risk. Don a pair of compression tights or socks, drink lots of water often and move your legs and feet. Do a lap or two of the cabin or perform exercises in your seat.
