Wherever you're coming from, flying can be an enjoyable experience if you're well organised. We've put together a list of handy hints that will help get your Cape York holiday started on the right foot. What to pack in your hand luggage:
- Air travel can be a cruisy experience if you carry the right things. Firstly, you'll need basic toiletry items, such as a toothbrush and hairbrush, a clean set of clothes and a few magazines. Secondly, make room in your carry-on bag for your mobile phone, a charger, any daily medications and perhaps a cosy neck pillow as well. Lastly, be sure to take your passport, travel papers and some money.
Do not pack the following items in your hand luggage:
- While the list of banned items can differ between air carriers, the general rule of thumb is avoid carrying anything flammable, sharp or explosive. This includes things like screwdrivers, drills, spray paint and fireworks. Sporting equipment like baseball bats, and objects that could injure passengers, such as guns and swords, won't be allowed on board either.
What to wear on a flight:
- Comfort really should be your prime concern when choosing what to wear on your flight. Consider your footwear choice with care too, as swollen feet can be a side effect of flying. Slightly roomy, flat shoes work well.
- Unfortunately, a risk of long-distance travel is developing deep vein thrombosis (DVT), a blood clotting condition caused by prolonged inactivity. To avoid this, make the most of every opportunity to stretch your legs and walk around the cabin. Compression socks and tights are another easy way to help lower your risk.
