We've rounded up all the info you need to make your flight as stress-free as possible. Follow our top tips and you'll be cruising through airport security and exploring Zeewolde before you know it.What to pack in your hand luggage:
- A plane ride can be a great experience if you take the right gear. First of all you'll need basic toiletry items, such as a toothbrush and lip balm, a spare set of clothes and a good novel. Secondly, make room in your hand luggage for your laptop, a charger, your medications and perhaps a cosy neck pillow too. Lastly, be sure to take your passport, travel papers and some cash.
Do not pack the following items in your hand luggage:
- While the list of banned items differs between air carriers, the general rule of thumb is avoid carrying anything flammable, sharp or explosive. This includes things like screwdrivers, knives, aerosol cans and bleaching agents. Sporting equipment like hockey sticks, and items that could injure passengers, such as firearms and swords, can't come on board with you either.
What to wear on a flight:
- The goal here is to make yourself as comfortable as you can. Layer up with loose, breathable clothing and take a sweater in case it gets cold in the cabin. Go for a pair of roomy, flat shoes as your feet may swell a little during the flight. Leave the stilettos and heavy hiking boots in your checked baggage.
- Most of us have heard about deep vein thrombosis (DVT), a blood clotting condition caused by reduced mobility or inactivity. There's plenty you can do to reduce your risk. Don a pair of compression tights or socks, drink lots of water and get your legs and feet moving. Do a few laps of the cabin or perform some stretches in your seat.
