  • During World War 2, the Japanese used Allied prisoners of war to build a railway from Thailand to Burma so they could supply their army without the dangers of sending supplies by sea. Many prisoners died under appalling conditions during its construction, and the line became known as the 'Death Railway'. It was immortalised in David Lean's 1957 film 'The Bridge on the River Kwai' which centres around one of the line's main engineering feats, the bridge across the Kwae Yai river just north of Kanchanaburi. Although the film was shot in Sri Lanka, the Bridge on the River Kwai really exists, and still carries regular passenger trains from Bangkok as far as Nam Tok. For anyone interested in 20th century history, a visit to Kanchanaburi and the infamous Death Railway is a must. This page gives all the necessary information for train travel from Bangkok to Kanchanaburi, the Bridge on the River Kwai & Nam Tok, along with an overview of what there is to see in the area, including the Bridge Over the River Kwai, the Wampo (Wang Po) Viaduct and the museum at Hellfire Pass (Konyu Cutting). You can see the Bridge on the River Kwai as a day trip from Bangkok using the morning train out and afternoon train back, but it's better to make it a 2 or 3 day trip as there's a lot more to see than just the Bridge. For example, you could take the morning passenger train from Bangkok to Kanchanaburi on day 1, stay a night or two in Kanchanaburi, then take the afternoon train back on day 2 or 3, so you can visit Hellfire Pass (less well known than the Bridge, but not be missed) and travel the Death Railway through fantastic scenery over the dramatic Wampo Viaduct as far as its current terminus at Nam Tok.

One of the best resort I have ever stayed in Kanchanaburi! Facilities are great. The place was peaceful and quiet with garden and river view. Communication was smooth and easy. Great services from staffs.

ราคาแพงไปหน่อยครับรู้สึกว่าไม่ค่อยคุ้มค่ากับราคาที่จ่ายไป สภาพของที่พักเป็นบังกะโลสภาพน่าจะปรับปรุงเรื่องซ่อมแซมนะครับ บรรยากาศแวดล้อม เป็นธรรมชาติ ร่มรื่น สวนต้นไม้สวยมาก มีความสงบเงียบดีมากไม่อึกทึกอันนี้ถือว่าชอบมากครับ การเช็คอิน ผมรู้สึกผิดหวังกับระบบเช็คอินของที่นี่ เนื่องจากผมจองห้องช่วงกลางคืนของวันศุกร์ แล้ว ไปเช็คอินวันเสาร์เย็น ทางโรงแรมบอกว่าไม่มี Booking ผมเลยเปิด Booking ให้ดู ในแอปมือถือ แต่ผมหาอีเมล์ไม่เจอ ทางโรงแรมก็พยายามให้ผม ส่งอีเมล์ที่มีการ Confirm Booking ให้กับโรงแรมให้ได้โดยการ Capture หน้าจอแล้วส่งเมล์ให้ ซึ่งผมก็ไม่เข้าใจว่าในเมื่อผมให้ Booking Number กับ ทางโรงแรมแล้ว ทำไมโรงแรมไม่ Confirm กับทาง Hotels.com ว่ามี Booking Number นี้หรือไม่ แล้วโยนภาระให้กับผู้เข้าพัก ซึ่งผมคิดว่า ระบบ Confirmation ระหว่าง Hotels.com กับ ทางโรงแรมน่าจะดีกว่านี้ เพราะผ่านไปเกือบ 20 ชั่วโมงนับจากที่มีการจอง ในราคา 1600 บาท ผมขอเป็นห้องเตียงคู่ (Double Bed) ทางโรงแรมแจ้งว่า ที่โรงแรมมีแต่ห้องเตียงแฝด (Twin Bed)ทั้งหมด ดังนั้นไม่เหมาะกับคู่รักนะครับ ด้วยราคาดังกล่าว ทางโรงแรมมี Amenity ให้คือ น้ำสองขวด หมวกอาบน้ำ 2 ชุด สบู่เหลวแชมพูเป็นแบบกดจากตัวหัวจ่าย Cotton Buds 1 ซองมี3 อัน มีกาต้มน้ำบรรจุน้ำเปล่าให้ 3/4 กา และเตรียมถ้วยกาแฟให้ 2 ชุด แต่ไม่มีชุดกาแฟเตรียมไว้ให้ เลยงงว่าราคาเหมาะสมแล้วหรือ อาหารเช้า ด้วยราคาที่จ่ายไป ผมรู้สึกว่าดูไม่ค่อยเหมาะสมกับการจัด Buffet Line แบบนี้ ในราคาหัวละ 400 บาท เพราะ มีผลไม้ 2 อย่าง สัปรด แตงโม แถมไม่มีผ้าปิดอีก มีแมลงหวี่ตัวเล็กๆ ตอมสัปรด ไม่น่าทานเลย อาหารรสชาดกลางๆ ไม่ถึงกับอร่อยมาก แต่ก็พอทานได้

Went there on new year's eve paid for gala dinner and it was nice party, good buffe and I got many prizes. Breakfast was good, many choices of Thai food. Bed is so old and not comfy.

חוויה ממלון ליד קנצנבורי

שלום בטיול הזה היינו 2 מבוגרים ושלושה ילדים (11,8,5). הגעתי למלון לאחר המלצה של האתר וכניסה לאתר של בית המלון שהבטיח המון דברים, שבפועל לא מומשו. חשוב להגיד שהכוונות של צוות העובדים טובות. אבל לצערנו זה לא מספיק. העובדים לא מבינים אנגלית. בקושי הצלחנו לתקשר איתם. רוב הפעמים פשוט הלכתי ללובי לחפש מישהו שמבין קצת אנגלית. וגם אז שעברנו את השיניים. האוכל בארוחת בוקר הוא תאילנדי בלבד (בשר, מוקפצים וכו). אין לילדים ולמי שנחשב מערבי, מה לאכול בארוחת הבוקר. מיקום - מי שמחפש מקום שקט בטבע, זה המקום. מי שמחפש מקום לישון קרוב לקנצנבורי, המקום לא מומלץ בעיקר בגלל הקושי להגיע אליו והמרחק מהעיר. ילדים - מעבר לגן שעשועים קטן, ממש אין להם מה לעשות. גם אין ערוצים בטלוויזיה. מתקני ספורט - למרות הפרסום על מגרש טניס, כדורגל וכו... בפועל אין מגרשי טניס, מגרש הכדורגל מתוחזק בצורה נמוכה ובכלל נראה לי שהמלון עזב את תחום הספורט ומתחזק יותר בכנסים וספר. מחיר - שילמתי על 2 לילות עבור 2 חדרי דה לוקח כ 11,000 BHT.

Bien mais trop loin de tout!

Ce qui est trompeur c est que l hotel est noté comme etant a kanchanaburi...faux. Je n ai pas regardé la carte et c etait 35km plus loin. Le complexe est trop grand, désert (pourtant nous sommes en periode touristique) et il n y a rien autour!! Et surtout, reserver une navette de l hotel coute un bras. Mais sinon, le service est impeccable, je les trouve tres agreables, avenants et sympa le systeme de navette pour nous ramener a notre chambre! En gros rien a dire sur le personnel de l hotel, c est juste la situation de l hotel qui n est pas ideale.

Weekend break

The hotel is in a beautiful setting and well laid out. Our room was a bit of a disappointment. We were given twin beds and coffee facilities in the room would really have been good to have as no decaffeinated coffee is available in the restaurants. Thailand has few places that cater decaf for pregnant women so we travel with our own. The a 'la carte dinner was good, but breakfast was very disappointing. It was cold, there was no milk the first morning and the coffee looked more like tea. The gardens are lovely and the staff are friendly. We were travelling with a 2 year old, but he could not use the playground as it was constantly wet from irrigation. The pool and massage facilities were excellent
