"Our stay was very average for such a grand hotel. The room felt like we were stopping in the servants quarters rather than a nice hotel. It was small and basic but clean and we got a good nights sleep. Breakfast was good. Parking here can be difficult if you turn up in the evening and there is a charge. Great location for all that Buxton has to offer and very convenient for the many restaurants and bars."

"Excellent hotel and highly recommend to all. Location is perfect. Right in the centre of Buxton. Very beautiful and surrounded by lovely cafes, bars, restaurants. There isn’t a car park on site so I parked in the train station which cost about £5 for 24 hours and was 2 mins walk away. Room was very nicely appointed. Lovely and quiet. Felt private. "We had booked a twin room as we were attending an event at Buxton Opera House which is literally across the road. The room was clean and tidy. We had a bathroom with bath and shower over bath. The hotel is very old and it’s showing signs of that in certain places. However it is being refurbished slowly I understand having been taken over by Champneys who own the Crescent Hotel which is next door. "Good location for walking into Matlock Bath, 20 minute easy flat walk. Hotel has an on site Indian restaurant and bar but we weren’t aware so didn’t eat there as we had booked somewhere in town. Staff very friendly and helpful. Parking was good on hotel premises. Didn’t have breakfast so can’t comment. It’s not luxury but a good hotel in a good location with parking which is difficult to find in the area."

"This is not a 4star hotel as described, it’s just a tired old pub that has some accommodation. The ‘deluxe’room that we had booked had stained carpets,sofa and cushions and was very basic. The two small bath towels and one hand towel provided were frayed. The menu is very basic in the pub. I had a pizza that was inedible as it tasted mouldy and looked horrible. "On our arrival we were met by the delightful owner who made us feel very welcome. She was also a source of information which proved extremely beneficial. Our room was part of the converted stable block which was fine apart from the small windows which made the room dark and claustrophobic. Had we stayed longer then I would of asked to be moved. The bathroom was impressive which consisted of both shower and slipper bath. Food good served by young staff who looked after all our needs really...

"Great location, nice size room. Kettle on the room, (could do with a few more tea bags and milk cartons). Really Quiet, I thought I'd hear noises but I didn't hear anything. Good dark curtains to keep the light out. Staff allowed me to park and follow a trail that is literally behind the pub. There is a restaurant (I didn't try the food, but I did have a nice beer of the evening)."
