"They should not call this a resort. It is a motel. The maintenance on this property is poor. There was no proper flooring on the balcony and the entrance to our room. The paint was peeling in our bathroom ceiling. The hot water was lukewarm at best. The hair dryer did not work. For the price of $230 a night you would think that they could afford new face towels that did not have holes in them from excessive use and washing. Luckily for us we only stayed one night. "Had trouble finding a plug to charge our cell phones; in this search we found a lot of dust and food item from previous person stay. Property looks old and needs a lot fixing up. They don’t offer free breakfast. Doesn’t look like they offer the ability to purchase breakfast. The one good thing is the air conditioner is very quiet, they’ve invested good money into that."

"The room was large and clean. It had everything we needed, including 24 hours nice hot coffee and tea at reception. Bed was just on the verge of being too hard. It is probably okay for one or two nights, but three became a challenge. The pillows weren't great. I'd recommend requesting the top floor, as noise from the room above came through fairly easily. All in all, a nice place. Bring your favorite pillow and ask for top floor, and you're all set."

When I come back to Cape Breton, I will be booking Blue Bayou again and well in advance since it will soon be a must for thousands of Cabot Trail visitors throughout the season."

"When we arrived they had overbooked. They said they could give us a "dome" instead; not what we asked for but because they had us over a barrel late in the day we took it. Staff promised us a room at the inn the next day and yes, we got it. But the dome was a nightmare - no toilet in the room, had to walk across the campus and it was pouring rain. VERY Disappointed."
