Red currant bushes on road past The Dale Red currants (Ribes nigrum) Currants are closely related to the gooseberry. Red currants were first mentioned in European literature, in a German manuscript from the early 15th century. They were domesticated by the 16th century mainly in the Netherlands and Denmark. Red currants can be eaten raw but perhaps the most familiar use of red currants is the jelly called "Cumberland sauce". Fantastic place. Went for my husband’s birthday, had drinks, dinner, massages & breakfast. All of the food was amazing & staff were really friendly and helpful. The bed was really comfy. Lovely spacious standard room. Very quiet overnight, I did not hear noise from other rooms. Very friendly reception staff. Pool facilities looked lovely, although I didn’t have time to use them.

Little Barningham

Rural crossroads. None of these country lanes has a name - the road seen straight ahead links with Hall Street further to the east. The bridge seen in mid-distance takes the road over the River Bure which here is nothing more than a small stream > 1278078. The stream here crosses the lane via a culvert which runs underneath it, only to cross underneath another lane at the same junction about 20 metres further to the west > 1278144. The River Bure rises near Melton Constable, 18 kilometres miles upstream of Aylsham, which was the original head of navigation. It flows into the North Sea by Breydon Water near Gorleston, further to the southeast.
