The first lord of Guise whose name Wauthier is known, at the bottom of a charter signed in 1058. Charter granted by King Henry I of France, in which the prince said to menses and several villas in favor of the monastery of Hanson. After seings the king, his son and the queen are those of bishops, knights and lords, among which stands out the name Wauthier de Guise (signum walteri of Guisiâ). The likely successor Wauthier is Godefroy de Guise (Godfridus of Gusgiâ). He married Ada de Roucy. She was the fifth daughter of Hilduin Count of Roucy. Hilduin had two son and seven daughters. The prem! Era married the King of Aragon, the second Count of Perche, the third Earl of Clermont, the fourth Earl of Rainel, the sixth Earl of Wark, the seventh prince of Burgundy. It is reported that Foucon Prince of Burgundy had Hilduin forced to consent to the union, taking him prisoner, with the Bishop of Laon, on a trip to Rome. It is generally attributed to the construction of the Château de Guise Godefroy. Father Fisherman in his book (History of the town of Guise and its surroundings - 1851) states that "Built at great expense, on a steep and inaccessible rock, this manor with its crenellated towers crown his high tower, should have a look that is both dangerous and picturesque. The great tower was a sign of feudal power. The great tower of Guise yet exist.
