"I highly recommend Kotoha Umamachi to anybody visiting Kyoto. The facility is very clean, seems like it was renovated or remodeled recently. It is located on a quiet side street in the southern Higashiyama neighborhood. Don't be worried by its proximity to a busy road and an overpass, it is a quiet area. I stayed in a double room, it came with a kitchenette and a washing machine for laundry in the room. Very convenient! Value for money was also excellent."

Also a pharmacy and convenience store within a 1-2 minute walk. My sister and I absolutely loved our stay - and the staff was so kind to us when my sister caught a mild bug. Cleaning and house amenities could be improved, together with the check-in process after booking. Needs more attention by the house manager but great potential. "

"It's a good place to go to experience staying in a traditional Japanese house. Very conveniently located near subway, convenience stores, restaurants, public baths and Gion. The kitchenette and laundry room had everything our family needed. Glad there were 2 toilets. Place was clean. It's a bit old with bits chipped off and the ground floor bedroom was rather cold and noisy so we all slept upstairs after the first night."

"+ve: This is very cheap when you can rent the whole house. Close to many tourist attractions (Kiyomizu Temple) Free early check in if requested. -ve: 2 levels house but the stairs are not inside the house. You need to go outside to go to another level. Not easy to find. No signage for the house. Luckily, we went there in the day time so that we can seek the help from the neighbours."
