"We left and decided to drive back to Edinburgh. The front desk staff was absolutely wonderful, such a warm inviting man. The Inn is outdated and the twin bed size and mattress was disappointing. The lighting is blue, which made the room feel cold. The breakfast is at the motor stop. Probably a good place for those who don't have a choice. But we were able to make it back to our original hotel in a timely manner, so we did."

"I had a wonderful stay at Powter Howe, a real treat. The room and bathroom were immaculately cleaned and well kept and the host is a gem who cooks the best breakfast which includes lovely free range eggs from her own hens. Waking up in the morning to the view over a beautiful garden beyond the lake to Skiddaw was an extra treat as each morning there was a new ever changing Lake District vista. I'll definitely be back! "There were no disabled parking spots, only reserved ones for electric cars. I booked an executive room (112), and was surprised to note one of the windows looked onto the bin area and recycling, that has lights on most of the night and early morning noise. My bath had mould around the seals, and the bath plug had to be removed with a spoon, which dislodged more mould that floated in the bath. When I mentioned about changing my room before unpacking due to the view, there were no others...

"Not at all what I expected … but we loved it ! Staff was amazing and always willing to help. Food was HOT and fresh . Do not hesitate to stay here! Close to motorway … and access is easy. "

"Bath in room 231 we were stopping in was off the wall with a gap down the back of it, there was no parking available for ourselves and had to park in a public car park, breakfast and staff was great, the lift wasn’t working so elderly people struggled with all the stairs and the bed was not a king size it was 2 singles pushed together with a ridge between the mattresses"

"We recently stayed at this lovely cottage in Carlisle with my two children and had an amazing time. The place was spotless, cosy, and had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. The cottage had a lovely big garden with beautiful views, and there were some great walks nearby which we all enjoyed. The host was welcoming and made sure everything was just right. We would definitely love to return and highly recommend it to anyone visiting the area!"

I worried about the stairs as I have difficulty climbing some stairs and these were not taxing on my knees, Appreciate the stay at The Old Rectory."
