"Great"

"Hotel was conveniently located about 10-15 min walking to nearest bus stop or cable car. 1 king bed room we stayed had a good size bedroom and bathroom for two people. Location of the AC in the bedroom bothered us since it was installed above the bed with fans pointing towards the bed and it was not possible to redirect the orientation of the fans. We had to run it before bedtime to air the room and then turn it off since it was too loud and cold but then room may get little stuffy. They charge $20 amenities fee which we never heard of in any of our stays in CA. This included breakfast which had tea, coffee and croissants and muffins which were not very fresh but edible. We rather have breakfast not included and not pay for it and choose what to eat ourselves rather than eating the same thing every morning. Staff was very nice. Overall we enjoyed our stay. "

"Got this room for my sister-in-law. Not only did she not feel safe there but the room was dilapidated- the walls had extreme levels of peeling paint and the sheets were heavily stained. She didn’t stay the night and I will be contesting the charges. "

"This hotel is central to everywhere we want to go in SF! Plus, we feel safe in this neighbourhood. We love the atmosphere at Union Square, and BART is close by for our trips out to the suburbs. The staff are always friendly and helpful. Our room was nice and clean, and our room requests were met 100%. We have stayed at the Handlery many times over the years, and will stay here again! Thank you!"

"The carpets were dirty, black mold in the showers, the mattresses were cheap and uncomfortable, the elevator is slow, small and usually occupied. Took the stairs to the 5th floor and down most of the time. Aside from that, its good place to stay for a night or two on a budget. Parking is secured in a gated lot next to the hotel for $32-40 per night. Walking distance to good eateries. Recommend food within walking distance: Cafe Buenos Aires on Polk st. for their variety of fresh empanadas and desserts, fruit fruit smoothies and hot mushroom drinks and matcha. Then to have the stews/soups and other chinese foods at Hai Ki Mi Gia on Ellis. Both eateries keep a very clean place and presentation of food, on top of the food tasting delicious."

"Great place to stay if you’re only really looking to stay here during the night. I will say if you plan on leaving early and coming back late be careful around the neighborhood because there are a lot of questionable people. The hotel its self is really good and i never felt unsafe. There are kitchen and laundry amenities available and while i did not use the laundry, i did put my stuff in a communal fridge and they were safe. Overall, i recommend it if you’re really only planning on sleeping here. - also note that there are no windows in the rooms (at least not mine) that face outside "

"The King George Hotel is an older hotel and is perhaps best described as in the style of an older European pension. Room was exceptionally clean; overall I found the hotel absolutely charming with spacious lobby and bar (open 4p-10p except Thursdays and Fridays); very steep circular steps at front and back; one small elevator. Be advised that deluxe rooms have air conditioning; standard rooms do not. If you want a refrigerator, request it right away as it's not automatic in the room (same with a fan). I was in 809, at the end of the hallway, a charming standard queen, and I happened to be there during an unusually hot period with city heat advisory -- in March 2026! Room was always very warm, but I got air circulating with propping open the door, opening the window, and having the fans go. Ceiling fan worked well. Note that this is not a complaint, but just an advisory for others who may read this and may expect something else. Also nearby are excellent food options (including 24 hour diner on weekends). I was there for a conference, and the King George was only around the corner from the conference hotels, whose conference rates were triple what I paid for the King George. Trader Joe's is in easy walking distance. People were great, shout-out to maintenance and housekeeping staff and to Jayson the bartender. The first floor lobby area and bar area, with TVs, plugs, tables, chairs, etc., was wonderful (but no air circulation). Free coffee and pastry in the morning too! "
