La Tourelle Inn & Spa

"Writers! I spent the last several day at La Tourelle Inn in Ithaca doing a self imposed writers retreat. I’ve done this before, but THIS place is everything I’ve never found before. The pic below is just one of at least 12 places where you can sit in total silence and write. There were gazebos, benches, nooks inside, a tent covered breakfast area outside and that’s before you get to the fireside camps where other people were “glamping” but hotel people can go sit by one of 12 fire pits! I also went out there during the day and took a nap on a leather couch in an outside tent covered living room in TOTAL SILENCE. Well not total silence. There were birds, frogs, and crickets. 🕊️ There were people if you wanted people (and I met two dogs!) but what struck me was the absolutely silence and solitude I could find. I desperately needed it, and I’ve NEVER found it like this before. If you go and don’t want a balcony, room 104 is the quietest. There’s a double door (room and hallway) so any children screaming in delight or adults laughing in the common area is blocked twice. Oh! And there’s a trail head to buttermilk falls on property and it’s right across from a Buddhist temple which just adds to the ambience. Plus the most delicious food and cider and lake views are found in Ithaca. If you need this, GO."

"Needs updating. Tub had mold on caulking and you could see a repair done in the ceramic. Not awful but noticeable. Coffee creamer curdled even though it was the non-refrigerated kind. Otherwise, the room was clean. We would still stay here again. We liked the location."

"Our room was clean and had a lot of space. Definitely get the room with the lake view, 2nd or 3rd floor would be best. The only area that I found that wasn't up to what my standards would have been would be the stairway.It looked like someone had come in with their muddy boots and walked around all of the stairs. We were there almost two days and the stairs were not cleaned. One thing I would have liked, but not a big deal would be coffee to be served all the time. It is only served from seven a m until ten am. There is coffee available in the rooms (Keriug) and when I asked for extra it was absolutely no problem at all.The front desk clerk was there to help me with that. It is a wonderful area, close to everything. Walking downtown , close to restaurants. great for walking and for sitting outside and lounging, looking at the lake."

"Check in was very good. The gal at the front desk very friendly. On day before our check-out I went to office to use computer and printer to print boarding passes and guest computer and printer was not working. Waited for like 15 minutes for the lady at front desk to print like over 50 pages for a gentleman that appeared to be an executive. I then went and asked since the guest computer was not functioning could she print boarding passes for me. She was rude and asked why I wouldn’t just use the app and present boarding passes like that. I said I was with my elderly father and we would prefer for paper copies. She said well I would have to email it to …. She rattles off an email address. I said I wasn’t sure how to do that and I asked her couldn’t she just go to the website for me with my confirmation # and without even looking at me anymore said no I would have to email it or she could not. I said fine and walked out! I had to drive to the public library, pay to park in parking ramp, go in and then pay to print them at their computers as a guest ,since I was not local. I have never stayed anywhere that I was unable to do it myself or ask for front desk assistance. She acted like I was a huge inconvenience to her but yet gladly printed 50plus pages for the gentleman there in front of me. "
