Characterful and historic pub / hotel with a nice view of the Lune. Very comfortable room which was tastefully decorated and spotlessly clean. Breakfast was superb and the staff were all very friendly and accommodating. Will definitely stay again when next in Lancaster

Nice pub hotel, good for overnight stay

We were driving from the south of England to Scotland and needed a place to stay overnight to break the trip into 2 days. We chose The Wagon and Horses in Lancaster and were very pleased with the choice. The only slight negative was that the rooms were small but they were very clean, had modern bathrooms and were comfortable. After a 6 hour drive all we wanted to do was check in and have dinner on premises. The pub and restaurant is a local favorite gauging by the number of people in the public areas. Even though the pub was busy (it was a Friday night) our rooms were quiet as was the street after 10PM. Our dinner was very good with lots of local fare, plenty of choice and reasonable prices. The high point was our full English breakfast the next morning which was included in the price of the room. Really, really good breakfast--one of the best of our 2 week trip.

La habitacion pequeña pero bonita. Ahora bien, daba a un patio con las máquinas refrigeradoras que calentaban las paredes y no podíamos abrir la ventana a pesar del calor, pues entraba más calor y el ruido no nos dejaba dormir. Las mujeres que prepararon el desayuno encantadoras. Pero dista mucho de 4 estrellas. No hay servicio de limpieza en las habitaciones

What a wonderful place

The best pub/Hotel I've stayed in, from arriving to leaving nothing was too much trouble, we were made to feel like friends visiting. The breakfast was cooked to order and was plentiful and we'll prepared, the rooms were spotless. I would definitely recommend this hotel, and will definitely stay again.

Staff was very friendly and the room was well appointed. Breakfast was included and very satisfying. We were right across from the river and walking distance to the castle and shopping. We also had dinner one night at the hotel and it was very good.

Overall enjoyable stay

Room small but well equipped. Breakfast good and breakfast staff (Diane) very friendly. Pub itself has reduced opening hours and only serves food on certain days. Food is restaurant prices and whilst tasty was overpriced (desserts were especially small)

Stylish decor and great food. Lovely staff.

This was a stopover between Scotland and Devon. The reviews had been good and we were not disappointed. Great food, friendly staff and a stylish, but cosy atmosphere in the restaurant /bar. Our room was perfect. Will definitely rebook, when we return to Scotland next year.

A good place to stay

Stayed one night on our way to the Lake district. Room comfortable and food amazing. Try a visit to the castle if you have time, it is free to wander round and reasonable for a guided tour. Also within easy reach of the town centre.

One night stay. Would return!

One night stay while visting theatre. Very welcoming. Lovely dinner and breakfast. Free on street parking. Very comfortable room overlooking the river, spotlessly clean. Room on the small side but that's because it's an old pub. Would return.

Music Festival stopover.

Had a good stay here for the music festival and it was nice being just out of the city centre. Room was clean and comfortable. TV was a little old and a bit hard to see. Breakfast was excellent. One problem that we had was a noisy extractor fan from the kitchen situated outside our window. Not an awful lot they can do about that and it is turned off after food service ends but it was very loud and on one night when we wanted to get an early night it was difficult to relax. Staff and landlady very helpful and welcoming and we would come back as long as we were not in that room (2)
