"We really loved our stay at Furnas. The hotel staff was nice and helpful, breakfast buffet was excellent (it didn’t vary over the 5 days though), the cabin was great and we made good use of our kitchenette (microwave didn’t work). The pool isn’t heated and the weather gets a bit chilly in certain days but it’s not profound so it wasn’t too bad. The hotel proposed a zip line activity which was a lot of fun. The restaurant was only upon reservation at night (4 or 6 course menu) and quite pricey, you had to cook your own lunch or take the car to go downtown 15mn from there. I scored comfort slightly down because of the 2 new buildings they were building literally next to our cabin, the noise would go on all day and didn’t even stop during lunchtime which made it complicated to use the balcony… but all in all an amazing experience!"

"We had a lovely stay at Caloura Hotel Resort. The location is quiet, remote, and beautiful—perched on the cliffs with peaceful sea views and lush gardens. It was especially nice to be able to walk down to the ocean through the grounds. The hotel feels very calm and relaxing, but you definitely need a car to get around. We had a ground-floor room overlooking the pool. The room itself was fairly basic but comfortable, and it was great to have a little balcony. The corridor outside had a strange smell when we first arrived, but the staff quickly resolved it after we mentioned it at reception. I wish I could remember the receptionist’s name (possibly Alfonso?)—he was incredibly kind and helpful throughout our stay. We ate at the hotel restaurant a few times. The food was a bit hit-and-miss, but the staff were always apologetic and clearly doing their best. Overall, the friendliness and helpfulness of the team really made a difference and made up for anything the hotel might lack in luxury. Lots of free parking too. We’d happily stay again and would recommend it to others looking for a peaceful base on São Miguel."

"I was looking for some respite and a place where I had easy access to hiking, the hot springs, and restaurants. I had a two day stay in Furnas before i headed home to the States. I arrived early and lucky for me one of the apartments was available. Not only that, they have me breakfast. The property is so beautifully laid out where you can hear the birds as you relax on one of outside chairs or in your room where an entire wall is made up of windows overlooking the hills. The apartment was pristine with kitchen, tablewares, wine, and refrigerator. I would have stayed longer but this was the tail end of my trip. They had electric bicycles onsite. The town was an easy 10 minute walk and a 15 minute walk to one of the most beautiful botanical gardens in the world: Parque Terra Nostra. The owner, his family and his staff, Patricia are very welcoming. I highly recommend their place for solo travelers and families. "
