A stay in a sassi The rooms in this hotel are tucked away, some winding up the stone stairs and above the caves. It’s surreal to say the least - you wake up, make yourself a hazelnut cappuccino and gaze at the sassi from the balcony. The receptionists were warm and friendly- the location, spectacular!

Helpful staff and beautiful spacious room. Room was generously stocked with breakfast and snack items, which was very helpful and delicious. We wished we had stayed longer, as Matera is beautiful and has so many good restaurants.

So Matera is no joke for walking and stairs..but this place makes the steps worth it. We had a suite which was huge..and beautiful. It's easy to get lost, but staff was always available on WhatsApp to help. Breakfast in our room was lovely... definitely recommend...bring good shoes!

Great staff, great room, great stay. From the reception through the departure, the staff was attentive and always at the ready to provide any needed assistance. The room was big and bright and prodivednfor anything we could've needed. Breakfast was good with numerous options. The grounds of the hotel are as beautiful as the historic center itself. It was also a great location close to restaurants in both parts of the historic area.

My husband loved our stay at this hotel! The room was spotless and spacious. We enjoyed the included breakfast, and the hotel is in a great location. The staff is very friendly, and parking outside the ZTL zone was easy to find. I totally recommend staying here.

This property was amazing! We had a large room that was very comfortable with a fabulous bath. Check in was easy and every staff member encountered was kind and knowledgeable. The snacks provided in the room were a welcomed convenience. The location was excellent and we had so much fun exploring Matera every day. I would definitely stay at this property again.

Beautiful, super clean and cosy room. We loved everything in it. Personel was very helpful, friendly and even came to show good restaurants close by in rain!!!! We got a lot of advice about the places we should visit. Destination of Hotel San Giorgio is perfect close to everything in old town Matera. Highly recomended in every way❤️ And not to forget... breakfast served to the room was also very good with local bread, cheese and procutto and lots of fresh fruit+ extra!

Not a full hotel. Almost self catering but lovely fully refreshed fridge and breakfast every day. We had a lovely private terrace. The apartment is beautifully situated for easy access to Sassi and also new Matera

We stayed in one of the cave rooms- clean, quiet. A good selection of food for breakfast choices in our room- topped up daily. A fascinating old quaint town. I did the walk to one of the caves across the valley which was hard work but interesting. Lots of good restaurants nearby . Recommend this Hotel.

Great Sassi stay

The host at reception gave us a brief tour and explained the city to us. Our room was stocked so we could simply have breakfast there. Also the Lucany restaurant beside our place was amazing. Highly recommend

The Sassi in Matera is one of the most beautiful and surprising places I've ever been to. To stay in a hotel like San Giorgio is a unique and amazing experience, which is hard to describe: you sleep in a cave (which, against all expectation, is super confortable), have an amazing breakfast in the room, and walk around at any moment (sunrise or sunset), allowing yourself to get lost and to discover the city once and again. I can't recommend the experience enough.
