I recently stayed two nights at Hotel Los Lanceros in El Escorial, and while there are a few positives, this establishment falls far short of the 4-star standard it claims.
The Positives:
• The location is truly excellent. Just a short walk to the Monastery of San Lorenzo, restaurants, shops, and cafes. It is well-situated for anyone exploring the town.
• The hotel staff were respectful, helpful, and accommodating throughout my stay.
The Negatives:
• This is not a 4-star hotel by international standards. At best, it would qualify as a 2-star property.
• The building appears to have been last renovated in the early 1990s and has not been properly updated since. Everything from the elevators to the hallway carpeting, furniture, and doors shows clear signs of wear and aging.
• I encountered serious issues with the air conditioning. My first room left me waking up drenched in sweat at 3:00 a.m. due to AC failure. I was told it would be fixed, but by the second night, it still had not been resolved. At midnight, I had to be moved to a second room. While the AC in the new room worked better, it was still centrally managed with a fixed minimum of 27°C, which is far too warm, especially in summer.
• Even in public areas like the restaurant, air conditioning was insufficient, making breakfast and indoor stays uncomfortable in the summer heat.
• The carpets throughout the hallways are worn, faded, and stained, with visible patches where repairs or replacem"
"Al final, no pude llevarme la Doctrina Social de la Iglesia, los cuatro tomos ni el quinto libro, ya que el domingo los habían vendido más temprano en el día."
"My stay here was calm and peaceful. I particularly loved the bilingual staff, they were super helpful and very friendly. They helped me get a cab to the airport. The room was nice and clean, breakfast was lovely.
No unnecessary hidden charges. Big plus for me.
My one recommendation would be to have fliers or cards for tour companies. I was given a map of the area indicating places I could visit but if they added pamphlets or business cards for tour companies, I think this would just be a plus.
Thanks for the apple I got from the reception. Made for a nice snack. "
"Outstanding quaint little mountain town with just a couple of bars, restaurants and small places to stay. Narrow cobblestone streets and tight parking. Very quiet and peaceful. Nice little restaurant below the hotel both run personally by the owner who is happy to chat, provide helpful service, and tailor meal times to your activities. Nice older stone, brick, beam, mortar and concrete buildings. This accommodation is jus a few rooms redone completely in modern style but retaining the old beams and wood floors / heavy doors. Very quiet, very modern, very comfortable, very pleasant with a genuinely friendly proprietor. Little restaurant has 6 or 7 tables and a small bar with very attentive service. Highly recommend! Larger town with all needs is only ten minutes down the hill on a steep and windy road. Very picturesque!"
"We love this hotel and have been here many times. It’s simple in terms of decor. Our bed this time (rm 403) was the most comfortable we’ve had. It’s a small room, not for too tall people as an alcove. Best location, super staff, lovely bar and outdoor seating, less than a minute to the Monastery and all the best restaurants."
