"The property consists of two rental units but this fact is not obvious from the pictures on the website. We did not get the rooftop deck with a view of the harbor. That belongs to the other unit. The sewer pipes are enclosed in the paper-thin walls of the first floor bedroom of our unit so every time someone flushes the toilet, uses the sink, takes a shower, you can hear water flowing through the pipes followed by loud clanging sound. Along with the loud music, people talking, chairs scraping...

"We paid very little for an excellent location and parking spot right downtown. Melville House is walkable to just about everything in Newport and while the parking lot is a tight squeeze, it was awesome to park the car in a private lot and not think about it all weekend. We knew our room would have a separate bathroom and were fine with it so no surprise there. The wifi is very weak but we found the cell reception and wifi to be weak all over Newport and eventually considered it a forced break from technology. Melville felt more like a boarding house than a hotel or B&B but again, we got what we paid for and we are not complaining about it. The sheets and towels were clean and we felt safe. If you're looking for luxury, look elsewhere."
