Weekend break

Had a great weekend break with walking around Rutland and Oakham Snow on Saturday night made the open wood fire feel warming Will defiantly return

Nice quiet setting. The host and his staff were very welcoming. The bar and restaurant were bright and tidy and welcoming. The kitchen was closing as we arrived however the host accommodated us with a lovely freshly cooked meal. Bed very comfy and it was very quiet through the night. Nice tea/coffee making facilities and toiletries. Everything we needed. There wasn’t a proper shower however there was a bath but this was noted in the property details when we booked. Decor a bit old-fashioned but clean. Can’t fault the property.

The kettle in the room hadn't been tested since 2017. The noise from room above was awful, needs major soundproofing and when the people upstairs took a shower water started coming through the ceiling. I called the owner to let him know after we left and he just said "thanks for letting me know" didn't ask if our stay was ok or anything else.

This property has just been taken over therefore there is still much to improve with the accommodation. The age of the furniture, state of repair and general decoration is in need of updating. The bathroom, whilst clean, is very dated with tired fittings. The television is also very small. As the wi-fi engineer is still updating the system it was not available in the overnight accommodation. It is my understanding that this is being sorted asap. However, on the plus side the beds were comfortable and we slept well. Housekeeping was great and we had bottled water in our room as well as a good hospitality tray. Nothing was too much trouble. We also received excellent attention from our host, Ian, who couldn’t do enough to ensure that we had everything we needed. The breakfast was excellent quality using local produce and the coffee was fresh filter which is always a bonus. We requested brown toast which was delicious bread and plenty of it, accompanied by tasty butter and preserves. The location was great, being very close to Rutland Water and our friends who live in Oakham. We would definitely stay here again in the hope that in time, the new owners will rectify the dated condition of the accommodation. Thank you for a relaxing stay. Angie and Annie x

A lot of the rooms are converted stables which gives some odd shapes & steep steps to upper levels. The whole property appears to have been redecorated to a good standard

Perfect for our visit to Stamford and in a lovely village. Food excellent and rooms clean an spacious. Wish they had shower gel & shampoo in bathroom but just hand soap. My wife would have liked a hairdryer.

Brilliant stay

Had a great time at White Horse. Especially the breakfast service. I would highly recommend this place, the rooms are very modern, clean and comfortable and the surroundings are stunning.

Great food but..........!

Restaurant excellent (though no food on a Sunday evening). Budget room was pretty budget!! Small upstairs room, small en-suite, avocado bath with impossible shower, no toiletries, dirty carpet in doorway area, patched up paint on wall.....just generally very 'faded'.....but you get what you pay for!! A shame as the main pub rooms were very nice and the staff were very pleasant and helpful......even offering to bring some shampoo from home for us!! Free wifi but hardly got a signal!!

Staff are lovely and pub is nice, but the rooms are terrible. The sound insulation is non existent I didn’t sleep at all because of the loud snoring coming from the room above ! The interior is shabby and carpets stained and dirty.

I have stayed at the White Horse during a period that included the two previous ownerships and it is fair to say that the only element that has not declined is the friendly staff. It retains its reputation for good food but I feel the accommodation is in need of renovation. I occupied a ground floor room and a guest leaving the room above at 4am disturbed my sleep due to the poor level of sound insulation between the two floors. Of a minor point is the inability to ventilate the room without making it insecure during milder weather conditions which it was during my stay. With its great location, ease of access and reputation for good food and friendly staff, the poor accommodations will continue to reduce its full potential.

Temperature cool in restaurant for breakfast; waitress very good. Staff insisted on second payment, not believing I had already paid... as indicated on receipt.. sorted next day. Nice old building but very squeaky floorboards above our ground floor room.Very close to beautiful Rutland water.

Had stayed here before and had good stay ...however had a very poor nights sleep on latest visit because our room was situated over a storeroom. All night we could hear the noise made by the pump on a freezer which kept us awake. I mentioned this to the waiter next morning but got fobbed off with. 'It.s an old building'...bit stuck for words at that reply!!!!!!!!!!!! They have lost a customer.

Comfortable for a night or two

The room was clean and tidy, had tea coffee facilities. I was only there one night but I couldn't see me being there more than two nights. You go across the court yard to the pub which is attached to the rooms. The food was okay, I was only offered the evening menu, It wasn't until after I had ordered from it, I heard the table behind me being offered the specials board, I was not informed of this at the time of booking in or when offered the menu. I got a feeble apology which I didn't find sincere, which was a shame as the staff do seem to be very pleasant..

Facilities poor, aftercare non existent.

We were allocated the Oakham room, a nice spacious bright clean room. However the shower wasn't working. Initially cold water came out of the hot tap and then the flow just stopped....no water came out. We were looking forward to a shower but couldn't have one. We spoke to the barperson at the bar to be told the rooms were full and there was nothing could be done on a Saturday evening. She said she was unaware of the problem. On booking out the next morning we asked to speak to the landlord who apologised and said it was a "known problem and they only rented out this room as a last resort!" We were gobsmacked. There was no mention of this known fault when we booked the room and we paid the full price. We were told that although she wasn't available, the Landlady looked after complaints or problems and would contact us with a view to "sort things out". Five days later and we have heard nothing, despite several phonecalls to the property with the promise of returned calls. I should also point out the service in the restaurant was shabby. The food was slow to arrive despite not being busy and the food was not as described! Then when we went to settle the bill we were charged for an additional six drinks we didn't have. We were refunded when we queried the bill. We had the intention of booking a room for the same weekend next year, a point we made to the Landlord. Needless to say it is the last place we would return to.

Very clean, we had room which was quite small that was over some sort of powered machine , very hot (provided fan which was great) but also hummed for most of night, beds too soft for us but understand everyone is used to different firmness. Missed not having proper walk in shower. No food served in the evening on a Sunday, i did E Mail before going checking this and asking for closeby alternatives but got no reply. There is no reception so have to check in at the bar, young man who '" saw us " was not welcoming and could not seem to want any eye contact , very unhelpful in suggesting eating places, young lady better. Breakfast lady and food however was really good So mixed , we got late deal for 1 night which was OK but would have been less happy if paid more for the room
