"Horrible. We switched hotels after the 1st night. The room had a musky/moldy smell. We got a 1 bedroom room and we were travelling with our kids and reserved the room for 4 people. When we got to the hotel that night there were no sheets on the pull out bed, no sheets or pillows or blankets for it in the room. When we called down they said they would send someone up. They came, dropped the pillows and sheets on the couch and left. The shower has NO water pressure. The bath tub had hair in it (no ours). The shower head was filthy. The in room hair dryer was partially melted and dirty (like sticky). The curtains on the windows were broken so they wouldn't close all the way. Overall the hotel was dark and dingy. Never again."

"Staff is super friendly & helpful. I came with my sister & her husband. Nice view of the lake between the buildings. The sofa bed is very uncomfortable. The door from the bathroom to the bedroom wouldn't shut all the way and was very tough to open & close. No sound barrier between the bathroom and the bedroom & main area--you could hear everything, as if the doors were open. The bathroom sink dripped continuously. There was rust on the bathroom door hinges which leaked toward the shower. Fitness facility is very nice with lots of options for cardio and strength-training. The lobby has a wonderful spa-like scent."

"The room itself was excellent — 9/10. The view was amazing, the bed was very comfortable, and the room was spacious and well-designed. However, for the price and for a hotel that markets itself as a 4-star property, many amenities were disappointing. First, the coffee machine in the room was very low quality, more comparable to what you would typically find at a Comfort Inn. There were also no bathrobes or hotel slippers provided, which I would expect at this price point. The lobby was surprisingly small and not particularly inviting. It felt dark and lacked the atmosphere you would expect from a higher-end hotel. The hotel only has one restaurant, and unfortunately the food quality was below average. Another disappointment was the rooftop. The hotel advertises rooftop access, but the rooftop is not actually owned or operated by the hotel. During our stay, it was closed for a private event, making it unavailable to guests. To make matters worse, on the day we checked out, the elevator was out of service, so we had to carry our luggage down the stairs ourselves. Overall, I would rate the room 9/10, but the amenities, dining, and overall hotel experience only 2/10. Because the room and view were truly outstanding, I would give the hotel an overall rating of 7/10. Without the exceptional room and view, my rating would have been significantly lower."

"Our room overlooked the Riverwalk. The view was amazing. The fresh, crisp linens and comfortable bed were greatly appreciated after long days of walking and sightseeing. Members of the hotel staff were very helpful, whether providing directions or supplying fresh towels. They were kind and courteous and made us feel welcomed. The location of the River Hotel could not be more convenient, as it is in the heart of the city, making it easy to get to bus lines and trains. I would highly recommend River Hotel for your next visit to Chicago."
