"Pure luxury in a fantastic location for exploring Funchal. Couldn't fault the hotel, everything was exquisite. We booked a superior room which meant we had a few extra perks (like having a separate breakfast restaurant with table service to name one) and the seam view balcony was huge. Overall we fully recommend the Cliff Bay"

"The staff was wonderful and very helpful! We loved how close to the beach it was and the night time music. The food was also plentiful and good. The room was cleaned every day. The beds were not comfortable, and neither were the pillows. The pool stayed really cold, not too many people got into the pool. We also paid for an ocean view and looked at the building across the street. Overall, we enjoyed our stay."

"Fantastic stay at Village Cabo Girao. The appartment was spacious and clean. Kitchen well equipped. Amazing views. Restaurant staff were welcoming and super friendly, special mention to Madalena and Maria. Food was delicious, ate twice at restaurant. Kids had a great time in the swimming pools. Tennis courts, mini golf, snooker tables, table tennis available. Plenty to do!"

Pestana Royal All Inclusive Ocean & Spa Resort

"A very dated hotel - I can see how it might have been good in its day, but now very worn, and does not align with expectations of a modern 5 star hotel. Rooms are small, unkempt, with very thin walls. We could hear toilets flushing throughout the night, and every word said in the rooms next door. We even paid for a deluxe sea view room. Bathrooms are unhygienic - no door, or walls to the bathroom, just a glass panel."

"The hotel is set in a beautiful location with stunning views, and the rooms were clean, comfortable, and well maintained. Unfortunately, the overall experience fell far short of what I would expect from a five-star all-inclusive resort. The biggest disappointment was the food. The quality was poor, with meals feeling mass-produced and lacking the standard, variety, and freshness that should accompany a five-star offering. The main restaurant was also extremely noisy, making it difficult to enjoy a relaxed dining experience. The entertainment provided little value and was underwhelming throughout our stay. In addition, some of the finer details that distinguish a true five-star hotel were noticeably absent. For example, fresh bottled water was not replenished daily in the room, which is a basic amenity many guests would expect. While the property itself is attractive and the accommodation comfortable, the overall experience did not justify its five-star rating. If you are looking for a genuine luxury all-inclusive experience, I would recommend considering other options."

Pestana Vila Lido Madeira Ocean Hotel

"The location of the Pestana Lido Vila is unique to this stretch of the coastline as the hotel is right on the waterfront. Most of the other hotels nearby are perched above the cliff with access to the water via elevators. There is a grocery store right across the street and many restaurants to choose from as well as a walkway along the waterfront that goes several miles up the coastline. We were also able to easily walk into downtown Funchal, about a 30 minute walk. The hotel is well maintained and has beautiful landscaping and many areas for sitting and enjoying the stunning views. The breakfast buffet has an abundance of options, including an omelette bar, as well as champagne. In addition to the indoor seating for breakfast you can choose to sit on the terrace which rubs the circumference of the hotel on the 5th floor and has an unobstructed view of the ocean below, there were plenty of outdoor seats although they are all just for two people, you could pull two tables together but not more than that. The pool was very clean and when we were there in late May there was never an issue of finding a couple of chaise lounges to park on, there are also some larger sun beds. There is direct ocean access via stairs or ladders into the water for strong swimmers. I loved everything about this hotel and would definitely stay there again!"
