The property was old and had some history attached to it.
The hotel itself was rundown. The staff where all friendly and helpful unfortunately the hotel itself wasn’t great. Our room was clean but there was a smell in the bathroom that wouldn't go away. The hotel is not at all suitable for less able bodied people. Not only does it not have a lift the bath itself is very high so hard to get into. In the bathroom the taps all had limscale on them and the grouting on the tiles was missing. The shower was powerful which is a plus but the water would not go straight down the plug, it took a while to drain. There is no onsite parking ,the closest car park was a few minutes walk away and you have to get a ticket from reception for a discount. I eneded up paying £8 a day for parking.
The most disappointing part of the hotel though was the breakfasts. One thing i look forward to is a cooked breakfast when I'm on holiday and this was not provided. What was provided was a small box of cereal with a small carton of milk ,a muffin and a small carton of juice. All of which you had to collect from reception and take back to your room to eat. There was 3 of us and only 1 chair so not the best experience. What you get for breakfast should be made clear when booking not when you get the hotel.
We would have gone to another hotel if we had of had the money like quite a few customersdiddo while we was there. All in all a very disappointing experience and we would not be going back.

Great stay
Hotel was in a great location. Friendly staff. No on site parking which wasn’t clear when we booked. But multi-storey car park near by. A little tired in places, but really liked the quirky layout due to its age. Would definitely stay here again.
Lovely room with an excellent location. The only downside is the noise throughout the night and what sounded like beer barrels being rolled out at 4am. But its not a bad compromise for the location. Would highly recommend
Very pleasant and helpful staff, a building steeped in history in the centre of town. The food smelt amazing although I didnt eat there. My room was up quite a few different stairs, landings with twists and turns everywhere, but well signposted. Enjoyed my stay, thanks
Arrived 15 mins early and were not made welcome, told to come back at 3pm.
Bed a little bit too soft but duvet lovely and puffy. Bathroom nice and bright with fluffy towels and complimentary toiletries, shower had good water pressure but the control unit could do with a deep clean/replacement. Breakfast had a lovely selection of cereal, fruit and pastries. A good selection of hot drinks but the orange & apple juice were not fresh and did not taste good. The hot breakfast was served to order and very nice (stated sausages were local but tasted bulk standard and bland)
Overall, for the price we paid, a nice place for the night.
Had business meetings in Reading so book the George hotel as I’ve been there before and it’s right in the town centre comfortable and clean

The room was lovely but no view, extractor fan in bathroom not working, room was boiling hot, no air conditioning but there was a fan. The window had a safety lock so only opened a small amount. Tv had poor reception. Breakfast was good though and room was modern and staff great.
Generally good but there was no WiFi available for the duration of my stay and the ‘cooked’ breakfast which I paid for was very limited - not my definition of a cooked breakfast all. More information should have been given.

Nice old style building
Hotel looks very nice and old style. Going into the bar after checkin and was loads of flys just flying about.
The room was boiling hot making it a very uncomfortable experience. Had a fan in there to blow the hot air about
Heading back to hotel after the evening to have a night cap and they don’t serve after 2300. Had another couple of people also ask for a drink so the demand is there

Lots of street noise in street facing rooms
Very hot room. Lots of noise from street outside with pub and cafe.
Opening the window to cool the room, meant that the noise made it worse. There was a note in room about outside noise, and advising to use the provided ear plugs if you didn't want the noise. However there were no ear plugs provided with the note. !!
The hotel was very clean even if old fashioned and probably needing refurbishment, and the bed was comfortable.
We arrive around around 20:00 to be asked if we were going out for evening as our room was not ready.
Radiators made a constant tapping noise throughout the night.
We was checked out by 0700 so cannot comment
On other areas of hotel.
Overall the hotel was sufficient. I have to say that I should have realised the room was noisy when I noticed earplugs provided in the room. Not sure where the noise was coming from but it was constant throughout the entire night.
