"This was a hotel we had passed many times and not gone in as we did not like the look from the road. I unwittingly booked it assuming it was in Richmond north Yorkshire not right on the A66. BIG mistake it was the best stay we have had for a while. Staff were very helpful and friendly. Everywhere was clean and tidy. Only thing we did not like was breakfast in our room. The basket delivered to the room was good but you had to eat it on your knee. A small table and chairs in the room would have been better. Still will recommend the hotel to all our friends and family. Great service."

"Very large room. Room 53 in a separate building from the main hotel building. Huge living area and 2 bedrooms and one bathroom. Just a minute off the motorway. Tired fittings and fixtures. Dated bathroom. Sofa and chairs look newer though. Perfect for overnight stop which is what we used it for (very spacious for 3 adults). We arrived at half past midnight and reception was friendly, quick and helpful."

"What a gorgeous Yorkshire small market- town hotel. We arrived on a sunny April day and enjoyed drinks outside on the pavement terrace facing the market square. Inside is a comfortable, tastefully decorated sitting room as well as a bar area and restaurant. A beautiful wide staircase led to our room which was also lovely. All the staff were friendly and helpful and the restaurant was excellent too."

"The room was clean enough but the shower room had streaks down the paint and signs of mildew. There was some discarded cigarettes by our bedroom door that a previous occupant must have left but housekeeping never removed them before or during our stay. Food in the restaurant was decent but the service was slow and we had to ask several times over for jugs of water to be brought to our table, too. Considering the hotel was completely refurbished just a couple of years ago, it was a disappointment. We won't be revisiting, sadly."

"Staff were kind and friendly. Food was good in the bar but over priced. My room was grubby, the bedding and bathroom were clean but there was dust and dirt on the ledges and windowsills. No shower gel in the bathroom either. I was also above the kitchen there was lots of banging about outside and a constant humming/droning from what sounded like extractor fans. This did stop around 9pm but then started up again at 10pm. It was really quite loud, I could still hear it when I had my headphones in. I was charged twice, payment taken by expedia and by the hotel. I have been advised that the hotel have refunded my payment but nothing showing yet. It is such a shame this beautiful building is being left to deteriorate but not spending money is one thing, there is no excuse for it not being cleaned properly."
