"First time in Belize and wanted to experience San Pedro but staying at Ambergris Sunset Hotel killed it for me. I booked a standard room but on checkin the room was terrible. Wife was horrified. Sheets and room smelled musky, the door did not even have a standard door knob, it was a latch and a dead bolt on a wooden ply door!!!! Come on!!! Large gaps in the doorway when closed, and with the pool just outside you really down have privacy. It really was a terrible room in my opinion.I checked...

"Portofino is a beautiful, quaint little resort. We have stayed in their small cabanas a number of times. They are rustic and simple. The resort grounds include a lovely salt water pool, a dock, a small reception area, a small outdoor bar with a beautiful patio under large sea grape trees as well as a restaurant above the reception area that overlooks the gorgeous sea and barrier reef. The appearance is very rustic on the outside, but don’t be too quick to judge. The staff was excellent and accommodating. They were very personable and informative.
