"I was very impressed with this hotel. Great amenities, well maintained, and walking distance to Universal Studios. I would stay here again and I would recommend to others."
"There's no breakfast. Almost every day the cleaning staff somehow managed to avoid my room the entire day, while I was out for hours at a time; and then when I would return to the room for 40 minutes, suddenly they would knock on the door. And even though I'd tell them to come back in half an hour, they wouldn't. Once, I would chalk up to coincidence - but four days, out of a five day stay? So I was left re-using towels and never having the room made up. Also the rooms were dark and the water pressure was too weak."
"I loved the property, the amenities, the rooms, the history of the Garland and the location is great as well. I love that you still feel as if you’re in the 70s in the best way."
"It was well after 10pm, more like 10:30pm when it all stopped. My children finally feel asleep, so I didn’t want to make a call using hotel phone. However I was calling on number from reservation. People were outside at the pool, which was posted to be closed at 8pm. They were drunk, screaming and using foul language. We tried going to pool before it closed, but didn’t stay because of them at that was before 7:30pm. Things we were hearing past 10pm was crude, drug related, and I seen about of cussing. Nobody went down and asked them to stop. Or leave the pool area which closed 2 1/2 hours beyond the time they stayed. It was horrible. My husband didn’t want us to leave our room since we were right next to the pool and they already saw us leave the pool due to there poor behavior. Hotel was good, minus they don’t care about customers who are trying to sleep and enjoy the pool with their families but have disrespect guest."
"The breakfast is a continental breakfast of just pastries and yogurt. Don’t assume that you will have a full breakfast. It is extra to have eggs and warm food. Also, the parking is $45 a day not $20 credit per day only counts once. If you choose to get food delivery to your room, you have to come down and receive it. They will not permit anyone to bring anything up. Also, if you do have a ton of luggage, you have to carry your own luggage up. There is no one to help you at the front desk."
BLVD Hotel and Studios Universal-Hollywood, an Ascend Collection Hotel
6/10 Okay
"During our stay, the hotel was undergoing construction. While I understand that maintenance and renovations are necessary and often difficult to schedule around guest occupancy, construction work began promptly at 7:00 a.m. each morning and was taking place directly outside our window, which was disruptive.
The room itself was average. It appeared somewhat dated and in need of updating, and the lighting throughout the room—particularly in the bathroom—was inadequate.
We stayed for three nights, and on the morning of our third day, the elevator was out of service. Since we were on the second floor, using the stairs was not an issue for us personally. However, I was concerned about how guests with mobility limitations or other accessibility needs would have managed.
The lobby is relatively small, but the adjacent seating and bar area is inviting and provides a more comfortable space to relax. There is also a small market available for convenience, though the prices were quite high.
One thoughtful touch was the complimentary drink vouchers provided for the bar during happy hour. Unfortunately, we were visiting Universal Studios and returned after the 7:00 p.m. cutoff each evening, so we were unable to use them. Nevertheless, it was a nice gesture and appreciated.
Overall, while there were some positives, the construction noise, outdated room condition, and elevator outage impacted our experience. I would rate this hotel a 6/10."
