Statue of Liberty

We used the FREE Staten Island ferry to get a great view of the Statue of Liberty rather than paying to visit Liberty Island.

Cannot now go inside the Statue of Liberty, but worth the organised boat trip (at a small charge) to see Statue close up. The Staten Island Ferry is free, but does not go very close to the statue.

Great to visit and you can climb up so far if you have the time and energy.

We took the water taxi which goes all the way around and then drops you off by the High Line which was also a brilliant walk which leads you to meat packing district and Chelsea market area.

Allow plenty of time, unless you go early in the morning, as the queues were horrendous !

This was incredibly busy, try and capitalise on the fact your body clock is out of synch when you wake early go then. We got the first boat out of the day, the queue on return wrapped round battery park. Tickets are collected from castle Clinton in battery park whether you have a attraction pass or not. Be prepared for security measures ie scanners etc drinks were taken as were explosive (can of impulse spray). When we got off the boat everyone headed right too lady liberty, we went the opposite way and went up to the observatory deck on top of the museum, beautiful view of Manhattan skyline all too ourselves....priceless!
