SouthShore Hotel on Lake Bemidji, Trademark Coll by Wyndham
10/10 Excellent
"Cosmetic upgrades were taking place but nothing that interfered with our stay. I swear I reserved the same type 2 bedroom room we get every time but I ended up in a handicap accessible tub room. I was a little sad but I’m sure that was my oversight. Staff incredibly friendly and helpful. Met a bride on the elevator and she was gorgeous. We will be back next May for our usual one night stay with birthday dinner at Green Mill. Love the hotel and staff. ❤️"
"We stayed in Cabin 12, which has two bedrooms but only one heating/cooling unit. We were freezing the first night despite blasting the heat; it was only 64 degrees by morning. Then when the weather changed, the A/C could not keep up either.
We had no showerhead or running water upon arrival, and the grounds were a mess behind the cabin. It appears some of the other old cabins (#12 was built in 1915) nearby have been torn down, and I have to wonder if this cabin is on its way out as well. The back looked all dug up, with pipes sticking out of the ground! The roof looked like it was falling apart on one side and the chimney was crumbling away as well.
If Ruttger's is going to keep these ancient cabins in circulation, they should not charge premium prices for them. Ours was over $300/night because it had two bedrooms, which was a higher rate than all of the other rooms I saw available. This experience was a major disappointment, although our family did love the lake proximity and access.
Breakfast was identical all mornings and was uninspired - the only hot food was make your own waffles. The waffle batter was out two out of three mornings, and there were no staff in sight at all on the morning of Memorial Day."
"Room was dirty with crumbs all over the carpet. Not even vacuumed on our check in. Pretty worn out towels. Over all this is not a clean hotel. Bed was so lumpy and uncomfortable in their higher priced rooms! Can’t imagine how the regular rooms are presented. Now I know, wont go back to this place."
"The positive: They mow the lawns and have irrigation to keep the landscape looking good. Yes, that is the only positive.
The negatives: The room smelled like musty wet carpet. The carpet was so disgusting it made you want to keep your shoes on. If you lock your key in the room you better do it during office hours, or you will sleeping in your truck for the night. No emergency # on the door. I wanted to check out before 8am, apparently you can’t. No key drop, or other way to checkout before a human arrives.
On site restaurant: I had the smothered chicken, one breast was ok, the other tasted like I was chewing on a raw breast, it was impossible to chew it was so rubbery. The bartender eventually asked how everything was, after I was sitting there finished for 10 minutes (I sat at the bar). I told him about the breast and he stated “really, it’s usually one of the best on the menu” ,rung up my ticket and handed it to me. The actual server who took my order apparently dislikes his job, had no personality and never came back to see how the meal was.
Onto the worse of the worse, the boat ramp, if you want to call it that, was without exaggeration at a 45 degree angle once your trailer hit the water. I was told they just fixed it!! Never have I experienced this, nor would I have used it if they would have let me know prior to backing in. I seriously think it tweaked my trailer. There is so much more and more details that could be provided, but only 1500 characters are allowed."
