The most perfect location! Ortigia is really special. Staff so helpful, room very clean. Delicious breakfast with continental fare but also scrambled eggs and bacon, and really lovely coffee.

Great central location

Staff were very helpful with directions, parking, Ortigio is another limited parking, Low Emissions Zone in Italy / Sicily, so valet parking is the way to go. Recommendations of sightseeing and cafes & restaurant are spot on.

Great hotel in Ortigia

Ortigia is an island and this hotel is in the best part of it. Walk to everything and a huge choice of restaurants and shops. Combine that with the charm of Ortigia I will be back again.

Wonderful boutique hotel in a premiere location - just a few minutes walk from the bridges of Ortigia, the Temple of Apollo, and the large outdoor market. The staff is incredible. Francesca arranged car pick-ups, gave us maps of the island and suggestions on what to visit, and walked with us to the box office so we could use her resident discount to buy tickets for a Greek play at the amphitheater! She, along with all her colleagues, were incredibly warm and hospitable. We were sad to say goodbye to them when it was time to leave. We also loved having a glass of cold, freshly squeezed orange juice at the bar after a day of walking.

We spent two night at this hotel. The location is really nice. I can’t say enough about the staff. They work flawlessly as a team and made our stay so comfortable. I wish I could write all their names in this review. Thank you for all you did for us.

Good 3 night stay in Ortigia.

This hotel was very clean and in a good location for exploring Ortigia. Not too many stairs to reach the first floor. The breakfast was very good, and the young man in charge was very helpful several times on our 3 night stay. The rooms are plain but clean and large. We enjoyed the small balcony. On weekend nights the crowd below was quite loud, but the AC mostly muffled the outdoor noise.

Nice large clean room and attached bath. Great albeit small shower but our first in 4 days that actually drained (yay)! Staff very nice & helpful. With an attached restaurant for drinks & snacks it’s very convenient. Only drawback is finding parking in the local lots as the parking is very difficult in the area. Be sure to download EasyPark app before you leave also as there is no on site parking at the hotel and several of the machines in the parking lots don’t work.

This hotel canceled our booking - made at least 4 months in advance - and booked another hotel, Gargallo, in Ortigia. While the cancelation was unpleasant, hotel Gargallo truned out to be a very nice and convenient stay for us. Therefore, I am unable to rate Gran Bretagna Hotel, as we didn't get to stay there, due to cancellation of our booking.

Comfortable and nice location in Ortigia

Spacious and very comfortable room and bathroom, quite close to the entrance of the island, with an good location near a busy square. Excellent service by Andre at the desk who is super helpful. Breakfast was delicious and with many options, both hot and cold, and excellent coffee from Victoria who provided very attentive and warm service. We felt very welcome and the staff was the best part of this hotel. Just a few issues of concern: there is no elevator and a lot of steps to the second floor (but Andre helped us with luggage); and at nights there is a bar outside which can make a little noise until late. Parking is, like seems standard in Sicily, at a paid garage about 700m away. Overall we had a wonderful stay and would stay here next time we return. Ortigia is an excellent place to stay if visiting Syracuse.

15 min after we checked in, the staff came to tell us she made a mistake and we need to move to a different room. Then in the evening, there was no hot water. There was no front desk, no contact info in the room to report the issue. We had to find a number on the internet to call. Numerous calls later, a technician and a staff came. They seemed not to be able to resolve the issue. Instead asked us to move again. We asked if we could take a shower in another room which they allowed, Next morning, though we were told when checked in, the front desk would be staffed by 10:00 am and we could leave our luggage there. No one was there. We had to leave our luggage in our room with a notice, but dropped the key as told. When we came back around 11:00 to get our luggage, no one was there. After looking around, a cleaning lady opened the door for us. However, she refused to allow us to use the toilet even though the room was not cleaned. She was so rude and cold, i can’t believe she even worked in hospitality. No sympathy and no flexibility. I guess they already had our money so dont care. she should be fired!! We have never had any experience like this after traveling in so many countries and places. This hotel is really terrible!

Notre séjour c'est très bien passé. Le personnel très aimable a fait beaucoup d'efforts pour nous apporter l'aide dont nous avions besoin, sachant que nous ne parlions pas italien. Chambre très bonne nuit et petit déjeuner très bien.

Muy decepcionante.

En la página de Hoteles.com dice que el Chek-in es a las 12pm y cuando llegamos al hotel a esa hora, nos han dicho que estaba mal porque es a las 15h. En la reserva que hice indicaba que tendríamos una botella de Prosecco de bienvenida y eso nunca existió, ni siquiera tienen agua embotellada de cortesía en la habitación. Las camas son durísimas, son de mala calidad. El baño tiene un sistema de extracción de aire que suena muchísimo, es muy molesto. La ducha es horrible, el piso está manchado y da la sensación de suciedad, muy estrecha, el agua sale mal, la alcachofa está oxidada, las puertas de la ducha feas y gastadas con apariencia de suciedad. Fatal. La recepción solo funciona entre las 8am y las 6pm, no es un hotel de 3 Estrellas, deberíais anunciarlo casi como un bed and breakfast. Si vais con maletas grandes, preparaos porque solo hay escaleras y muchas, nada de ascensor.
