Hotel is family owned and operated. Centrally located in the heart of VRSA. The family is super nice and acommodating. The hotel is clean all throughout the property and the area is very safe. Highly recommended!

I tried to cancel this stay after a close friend's death. I reached out to you to try to retrieve my money or to at least get a credit so I could visit Portugal and stay at the Villa Marquez a week or so later. You responded that you had tried to reach them but they refused.
I do not understand why you are now asking me for my review of the stay. You are already informed that I was unable to visit. You are also informed that I wished to postpone my stay at the Villa Marquez. You are informed that they had refused. Here is the email you sent me on 1/8/2026:

Clean and friendly staff. Conveniently located close to everything. Budget friendly but very basic and very dated with extremely small rooms and shower. Was fine for the overnight stay.
Villa Marquez is extremely clean thanks to housekeeping (10*), staff are very professional, kind, and attentive, kitchenette is great to meet people of different cultures. It has 2 refrigerators, a microwave, dishes/silverware, and sink. The balcony gives superb view of river, town, and lighthouse. My room had a oversized bed which made the room very small. The bathroom was private and very clean. For security there is a keypad to enter a code to open the entry door.
The huge drawback is the extreme noise level. The office is on the ground floor, I was on 1st floor, kitchenette on 3rd floor. I could hear bathroom noise from the next to mine, the room above had a chair that was dragged on the floor waking me in the process, dragging chairs from the kitchenette was also loud and bothersome, people walking on the floors were loud, and entry/exit of the front door were loud and bothersome.
Great place to stay. Very close to center of Vila Real de Santo Antonio. Very close to bars, cafes, restaurants, buses, small walk to the train station and bigger supermarkers. 10/15 minutes. Great transport links, trains to Faro and beyond and a ferry to Spain. Staff were grand, shower great and the bed was very comfy. A 24 minutes walk would get you today fabulous beach where you can walk to Monte Gordo. Beach is about 7 miles long. You can also walk through the trees or at side of a safe road. The walk along the river front is also very good, very close to a salt marsh nature reserve, much bird life. The guest house also has a room terrace with seats. So you can sit eating lunch etc. VRSA is a lovely wee town with occasional markets and a lot of shops to browse through. Cheers 😁😁

I always take away one star for 11 AM checkout. The norm is 12.
The other star for is for the tiny bathroom.
2 day stay whilst we took a boat trip up the Rio Gurdiana. First visit to VRSA so great chance to look around and get to know the town. Very impressed. The AL was in a perfect position to explore the town just a few yards from the harbour and marina and a few yards to the town and lots of restaurants and shops. The lodging was very clean and we were warmly welcomed. The room was immaculate but sadly the reception was not always staffed and when we needed help on the two occasions there was no one there. There was a note giving a number in case of emergency but we didn’t think our desire to buy a coffee capsule for the coffee machine and my need for a hairdryer were emergencies. There should have been a hair dryer in the room but I didn’t check until it was too late to ask. Not really an issue. There was a very nice kitchen dining room on the top floor with access to a lovely roof terrace with seating. The kitchen was very well equipped but it would have helped if the reception had mentioned the need to buy the capsules for the Dolce Gusto machine. We would definitely come back again to Villa Marquez. We would recommend it to others.
Very clean hotel near to all amenities and by the ferry to Spain. Wonderful roof terrace. It was our second stay hear and would thoroughly recommend it.
Really enjoyed our stay in this traditional little guest house right in the centre of the lovely border town of Vila Real de S. Antonio. Only 5 minutes on foot to the Spanish ferry, 20 mins from the train station and in a quiet street just off the bustling main square. The building is in the old town so not luxurious but it’s been beautifully maintained and has a restful ambiance - felt at home right away. The small room was impeccably clean, tastefully decorated & even had a good range of TV channels. The bathroom was very small but we managed fine (and we’re 75) though if you had disability or weight issues it could be a problem.
We really loved the roof terrace, had our breakfast there, where the hosts have thoughtfully provided a mini kitchen for guests use.
Ticked all my boxes and will definitely return!!
The location is excellent for exploring on foot. It is very close to the port and the plaza. The room and bathroom are small. The bed took up most of the room so wouldn’t want to spend too much time there. The people are very helpful and welcoming.
I stayed for about a week. I love it because it is family owned. And Brono is the son. He is kind and knowledgeable, and has a Master Degree in Hosptality management. He gave me good reference for where to eat and park. The hotel is one minute from Police station, so it is very safe and in the central district of a small towns. I forgot to take my charger backs and I telephoned Brono and he saved for me. I plan to go back, so will pick up later or have them mail to me. All it is a good place with a good rate in the shoulder season. I highly recommend. But if you have a family or for two people the room maybe a bit small for you. San Antonio is such a tranquil twin, very peaceful in November.
