"As a former office manager, I tend to be more particular than your average guest. After a stay at a La Quinta Inn in Columbus, I drove to the Hampton Inn in Circleville. Check-in time is from 4 pm on (whereas most hotels/motels are from 3 pm on). I understand that some hotels may be shorthanded on housekeeping staff so perhaps this is the reason for the extra hour. Nonetheless, I showed up at 2:45 pm and asked if I could check-in, just to see how staff would handle it. The front desk clerk of course told me to come back after 4 pm, as instructed by management. Fair enough, but here's where they could've done things a little differently. When I was a front desk clerk and someone would show up early (meaning early afternoon), I would make a quick call to housekeeping to see if a room that would accomodate the guest/s was clean and ready. If so, I checked them in right away. If not, at least it showed the customer that I was attempting to get them into a room before the big rush expected after check-in time. Either way, the clerk blew a chance to impress me with his quick dismissal and not even a summary apology. Later when I did check-in the lady (an older woman) was a little friendlier than the first male clerk. After the first nights stay I went with my wife to the gym which was near the front desk. No one told us about this, so we had to explore the property and discover it on our own. My only suggestion would be that a retrain of front desk clerks be conducted"
