The hotel was okay. The bathroom smell like cigarette when we were there. when other people smoke in there room you'll be able to smell it in your room it sucks if you don't smoke cigarettes. But if you do you'll be right at home. Don't think they have non-smoking rooms. My room was changed two times because of the smell of cigarette. The lobby was the nicest place of the hotel. Paint was peeling from the ceiling in the room. The beds were hard as rock. No I would not recommend it.

My first chinese hotel

Grand lobby. Confortable 1 & 1/2 bathroom suite. In room safe. Two TV monitors. Small refrigerator. Good breakfast. Make it a point to enjoy the Tang dynasty dinner show in the hotel.

No understanding of English

Had difficulty at the front desk and in the Chinese dining room with English. For example I asked for beer, they bought me a bottle that was at room temperature. I asked for cold beer and the manager took the bottle and ten minutes later appeared with a hot beer. Food service was very slow with steamed rice making a late appearance. On the plus side the room was fine and the food good. It's just a pity that a hotel that rates itself as a 4 star international does not have an English Capability.

Great Short Stay Hotel

We stayed at the GNWH on our last night in Xian. Check in was a breeze (although a heads up about the security deposit) would have been nice). We received adjoining rooms as requested, which was great. The rooms were great - super comfy bed, really nice bathrooms, cold a/c, and fridge. The carpet, however, was a little on the shabby side. We used the pool in the afternoon, which was busy but well maintained. We had room service pasta and noodles for dinner, which was solid if unspectacular. The breakfast the next morning, again, was good but not great. Check out was quick and courteous. Because we were a family of four with a fair bit of luggage, the concierge ordered us 2 roomy taxis for the ride to the airport. The entire stay was very comfortable - it was great to have some of the rough edges of "the Chinese Experience" knocked off for a night.

Grand but Tired

We were in Xian for only one night. The hotel lobby is overly grand and does not reflect the quality of the accomodations, which desperately need renovation and better maintenance. Our room was dirty and the carpet was stained and worn, the bath curtain had black mold on it. The staff is curt and barely fluent in English until a manager could be located to translate. It seems like the notion of hospitality is absent. Even the "welcome" information advises what prices guests will be charged if anything is damaged or missing. The room service is clumsy and difficult to order from. We were hung up on once and had to call again and had difficulty ordering in English. We were then charged higher than the prices on the menu. The bed was very firm but we slept well because we were exhausted. When leaving for the airport the next morning they first said they could not get a taxi, only a hotel car which would be more expensive. Then they got a taxi anyway. Good value but customer service needs a makeover.

good central location within city walls

excellent location wityhin city walls and convenient for major bus routes. Hotel arranged day trip driver with excellent english. most hotel staff understood and spoken rudimentary english - enough to get by. excellent buffet breakfast and good choices for evening meals in the 2 hotel restaurants. Room slightly cramped with 3 persons occupancy and air con noisy but those were the only minor negative. Would use again.

Overall a good choice

This is a large, Western style hotel that feels like an upper-middle range hotel in the US. After travelling in China, it did feel good to spend two nights with a full tub and shower. This seems to be a hotel used by tour groups, which helps explain the ambience. We did not eat in the Western style restaurant, which looked boring and overpriced. The Chinese restaurant was not at all busy and had good food at reasonable prices and OK service. (We loved the celery steamed dumplings at 10 RMB.) The concierges varied in English skills, but we got the help we needed. The hotel was a couple of kilometers northwest of the Bell Tower. While some hotels are closer, it was good for us not to be in the very heart of the old city. The pedestrian mall in the Muslim Quarter (worth a visit) and narrow streets would make it difficult to get out to where one needs to be to travel to the Terra Cotta Warriors. (South of the Bell Tower might also be OK.) This is a quirky city with one truly outstanding sight to see. Since getting to the Terra Cotta warriors early is valuable to avoid crowds (this seems to be true everywhere in China) we were happy to have stayed here. Overall, a good choice.

Great hotel, but overpriced inadequate service.

Fantastic hotel location, look and architecture. It's like it's a 5 star hotel, but staffed with people that have never done this job before. They are trying very hard to give great service, but they definitely fall short of the mark. Though, I must say that it might have been because of the low time of the year maybe as there only seemed to be about 20 people staying there.

Grend New World Xi'an

We loved this place and it was nicely located so that we could walk to all the close sites and then they arranged for us the tours to the sites outside the city walls. The staff were friendly and very helpful and the room was very clean and comfortable. There is nothing but positives to say about this hotel. As in other reviews I have to mention that the beds are extremely hard.

Good Beijing Hotel

Located in a urban area and within walking distance of reasonable places to eat, pleanty of food stores for snacks, fruit etc. 10 min walk to subway but once there we could access just about any part of the city. Easy to buy tickets and route map and station names in Chinese and English. We asked for a quite room and we were given one. Booked with Expedia and no problems except that breakfast was not included.

A+ rest and recovery from busy tour

Beautiful hotel with a wonderfully helpful staff; one of the front desk staff helped with solving a problem - translating my English with the needed Chinese :)

Feels like a run down hotel

When we arrived at the hotel, we were delayed about 1-2hrs because they needed to prepare the room. They were nice enough to give us a free pass to a beverage at their Cafe Bar. We got the standard queen size room for four days. The room was okay, nothing too great or fantastic about the room. Some of the wallpaper looked worn down and there were plaster used to fixed some damage on the ceiling. We had a window view of Xi'an which was decent. The bathroom was had signs of mildew everywhere, which turn me off. The thing i liked about the hotel was the addition of the pool. the pool was a nice place to cool off during a hot day in Xi'an.

Hotellet ligger lite i utkanten av själva centrum, men innanför stadsmuren. Eftersom det (i dagsläget) inte finns någon tunnelbana måste man antingen gå eller ta en taxi för att komma till marknaden, affärer, busstationen etc. En taxiresa tar ca 10 min, kostar ca 10 kr, till busstationen för att åka till ex terrakottaarmén. Hotellet var rent, snyggt och alla bekvämligheter fanns. Frukosten var utmärkt mot en tilläggsavgift på 50 kr/pers (om det inte ingår dvs). Sängarna var dock hårda. Först fick vi ett rum där AC'n inte fungerade, men fick snabbt byta mot ett rum där det fungerade. Servicen var bra, engelskakunskaperna var varken bättre eller sämre än någon annan stans i Kina. Good Hotel

Check-in was effortless and very straightforward, room was spacious with king size bed. Free fruit on arrival which was nice attention to detail. Breakfast was included in price of room - good variety of food. Location is not central but had no problems with the location.

Fint hotell

Fint hotell, men ligger litt utenfor der det skjer. Vanskelig å få taxi, så vi var nødt til å ta buss. Rommet er greit, men litt bråk fra veien. God frokost til 50Yen!

great location great services

The hotel concierge was fairly knowledgeable. He did an excellent job in helping us to book cars and how to get around the city. If you were too tired to go restaurant in town, the hotel restaurant would be a good compromise. The noodles we had there were superb, definitely one of our most memorable experiences in Xi-an

Fair stay

Hotel was in a good location, close to West gate, had no problems during the stay, breakfast was great and very popular with both locals and foreigners. Down stairs bar was a little steep, but a decent place to stay.

Zakelijk en niet te duur hotel met nette kamers

Het hotel is mooi gesitueerd, en heeft een zakelijke uitstraling. Alles is aanwezig, de service is goed en de kamers zijn net. Het ontbijt is goedkoop vergeleken met andere hotels, ondanks dat het best uitgebreid is. Ik beveel dit hotel zeker aan, het enige minpunt is dat op onze kamer er een muffe geur hing, welke verdween als de airco/ventilatie aan staat. Echter, deze is zeer luidruchtig, zelfs in de laagste stand. Hierdoor moet vooral 's nachts gekozen worden: rust en geur, of herrie en frisse lucht. Voor de rest een zeker aan te bevelen hotel.

Not as good as I thought it would be

I had picked this hotel because of its location and due to the reviews of my fellow travelers. The location was fine and the room was functional with the typical set up in China. The bathroom was a bit run down but ok. However, I have to admit I was quite disappointed with the service at the reception which I found to be a little unfriendly although it was not a busy hour when we checked in. The part that I found most disappointing however, was the restaurant. The food quality, particularly during breakfast, was not satisfying. The service simply poor. It had the typical flair of a China hotel that deals with tourist groups who only come once... After living in China now for 14 years I have clearly seen much better hotels in the same price range. I will not come back.

very nice hotel and not too far from the bell tower - a short pedicab. gym and pool were so-so but that's not why we were there.
