The Arch of Constantine, one of the best preserved monuments of the imperial era, is also one of Rome's main monuments and one of its three triumphal arches. The triumphal arches were built to commemorate battlefield victories. Thus the arch of Constantine was built to commemorate Emperor Constantine's victory over Maxentius at the Battle of the Milvian Bridge. The arch is 21m high and was built between 312 and 315 AD.

Os arcos triunfais eram construídos para comemorar vitórias no campo de batalha. Assim, o arco de Constantino foi mandado construir para comemorar a vitória do Imperador Constantino sobre Maxêncio na Batalha da Ponte Mílvia.
