"Had a lovely stay and would definitely stay again! Clean rooms, well appointed and kind staff at check in. Be aware it's a small hotel - you will need to carry your bags up a flight of stairs if on the upper level. My only negative is that the walls are quite thin. While it was actually very quiet, I was able to hear people talking next door, and I could hear the shower next door on both sides as well. Great little hotel!"

"We loved the character of the property. It is beautifully restored, and every room is different. The location is wonderful, with restaurants, sights and shops within an easy walk. The reception staff is terrific, with a dinner recommendation that suited our request perfectly.
We were in room 6, which is on the top floor. It is charming with ancient wood beams, a cosy seating area, comfortable bed and a beautiful view. This didn’t bother us, but if you are tall, the beams are quite low...

"So nice to have the chance to stay at Old Poelgeest, the country estate where the Dutch humanist, botanist, chemist and physician Herman Boerhaave 1668 - 1738 had his home, travelling back and forth to lecture at Leyden University by horse-drawn boat. This is where he created his own hortus botanicus later turned into an English landscape garden by his children. We stayed for two nights giving us time to walk all around Leyden in fine autumn sunshine climbing the old fort and enjoying 360 degree...
