"Stayed here while visiting an immuno-compromised relative. Requested nobody enter our room for duration of stay, ie housekeeping, & hotel confirmed this was fine. But someone entered while we had a “Do Not Disturb” sign on door to UPGRADE THE TV. This caused us to be unable to visit our relative, ruined the whole trip.
In reporting this to the hotel, we learned: (1) upon check-in we were supposed to get a verbal warning about the TV upgrades, (2) a warning note was supposed to be in our room upon arrival, & (3) the technician shouldn’t enter cuz of DND sign. Their 3 misses cost us our in-person visit with loved one.
We isolated prior to this trip and took time off work, but Hampton prioritized TV upgrades over our CONFIRMED/APPROVED PRIVACY NEEDS, rendering our extensive/costly prep & trip worthless.
Management offered more nights’ stay at discounted rate, but we won’t stay here again even without needing to isolate for a loved one, because somebody may enter your room even if you’re inside with the hotel’s official DO NOT DISTURB sign on the doorknob.
Management agreed to early checkout and partial refund. (PS: Expedia’s customer service process = Kafkaesque nightmare; set aside several headachey days to navigate it.)
Hampton didn’t indicate they’d move away from that 3rd party technician, nor review with them the policies that they violated. The GM made an effort to connect with me empathetically, & I appreciate that. I wish we could be at least refunded for the full trip."
